The Caddo Parish Sheriff’s Office says an accident Friday night has claimed the lives of two people. Investigators believe that one of the vehicles may have crossed into the lane of the oncoming vehicle in a curve in the road. They say one person from each vehicle has died.

The Rapides Parish Sheriff’s Office says they’ve arrested 13 people during an operation targeting prostitution. Lt. Tommy Carnline says their detectives became suspicious illegal sexual activity was taking place at local hotels when they came across internet advertisements that offered “massages”, “quality time”, and “anything you want”…

In Fisher, Louisiana a body that was discovered this morning in a burned out home is being ruled as a homicide, according to the Sabine Parish Sheriff’s Office. The victim’s identity has not been released, and authorites are on the hunt for the owner of the home, who is missing.

For the second month in a row, Louisiana’s jobless rate has grown, and payroll rates have slowed. The U.S. Labor Department reports that unemployment rates went from 4.9 percent to 5 percent in June, which is still well below the nation’s rate at 6.1 percent. The total number of unemployed people in the state is now just above 100 thousand.

A former Fork Polk soldier who was charged with knowingly engaging in child sex on the base has been sentenced to 17 and a half years in prison. Thirty nine year-old Emil Roland Rath will also have five years of supervision, and will be required to registered as a sex offender.

A slow moving weather system has flooded some roads and sandbags are needed in low lying areas of south Louisiana. Iberia Parish Sheriff Louis Ackal says they have several roads flooded. High water has also been reported in East Baton Rouge, Lafayette, and St. Martin Parishes. A 54-year-old Church Point man is dead after being pinned under a vehicle after a jack malfunctioned. The Acadia Parish Sheriff’s Office says Paul Brent Bourgeois was removing the front tires on a vehicle when the jack gave way. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office says the body of a 24-year-old man was found in a Metairie canal this morning. A witness reportedly told authorities he and the unidentified victim drank alcohol for several hours yesterday. When he left, he saw the victim go swimming from the canal bank. The witness returned to the canal and discovered the body. Foul play is not suspected, according to authorities.

A meeting between Governor Bobby Jindal and Education Superintendent John White does not produce an agreement on where to go from here when it comes to having a standardized test in place for the upcoming school year.  The dispute erupted when Jindal used executive authority to keep tests associated with Common Core out of Louisiana.  White says BESE leaders believe they have the legal authority to determine the type of standardized test students should take, but the Jindal administration has made it clear they should be involved in that process…

Much of the state is under a Flash Flood Watch through this afternoon as rains continue to sweep across the state.  National Weather Service forecasts show the threat of flooding could extend into the weekend.  There are several reports of street flooding throughout the state, as well as weather related power outages.

A small child was struck and killed by her father’s truck in Bossier City.  The tragic incident occured Thursday morning as 27-year-old Damion Dacaldacal was preparing to take his three children to daycare.  Bossier City Police Sgt. Brian Griffith says at some point Dacaldacal lost track of one of his children and as he was pulling out of the driveway, he struck his 14-month-old child.  The child was pronounced dead at a local hospital.  Griffith says this is a harshreminder for parents to always try to keep an eye on your children…
