A slow moving weather system has flooded some roads and sandbags are needed in low-lying areas in south Louisiana. Kevin Davis, director of the Governor’s Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness, says three to five inches of rain in a short period of time is possible for locations in the southern half of the state…

Iberia Parish Sheriff Louis Ackal says they have several roads flooded in their parish. High water has also been reported in East Baton Rouge, Lafayette, and St. Martin Parishes. Much of the state is under a Flash Flood Watch through this afternoon.

Louisiana’s unemployment rate rose for the second consecutive month in June. The state’s jobless rate is at 5-percent, up from 4.9-percent in May. However, the Bayou State’s unemployment rate remains below the national jobless rate of 6.1-percent.

According to new research, stress can be passed on to another person as easily as the common cold. The Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office says the body of a 24-year-old man was found in a Metairie canal this morning. A witness reportedly told authorities he and the unidentified victim drank alcohol for several hours yesterday. When he left, he saw the victim go swimming from the canal bank. The witness returned to the canal and discovered the body. Foul play is not suspected, according to authorities.
