Federal dollars are what have enabled the shutdown of new 600 abandoned wells this year. Governor John Bel Edwards says the money is the result of the Infrastructure Law approved by Congress in 2021

Saints Quarterback Derek Carr is listed as questionable for Sunday’s game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Carr practiced for the first time this week yesterday, but he was limited by a shoulder injury. Former LSU star and Buccaneers linebacker Devin White is also questionable as he has a foot injury.

Just one day after four Baton Rouge Police officers were placed on administrative leave, they’ve all been arrested in connection to an arrest two years ago. Chief Murphy Paul says body cameras were activated during an excessive force strip search, but when a supervisor saw the footage, that’s when the cover-up began. (:16) Cut 4 (06) “…body camera.”

After a six-year hiatus, Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey is back with a newly reimagined “Greatest Show on Earth” that opens tonight in Bossier City. Nearly 600 orphaned wells have been plugged so far this year. That’s thanks to money from the federal government and the U-S Fish and Wildlife Service. Governor John Bel Edwards says those wells can leak methane and contribute to global warming. (:12) Cut 12 (10) “…doing this”

Four Baton Rouge Police officers including the Deputy Chief have been arrested following an investigation into physical abuse and misconduct in the arrest of a man two years ago. Chief Murphy Paul says officers used tasers and one officer struck the man during a strip search. (:14)

But Ole Miss has yet to get its top running back going, Quinshon Judkins. Coach Brian Kelly says he knows Judkins is a talented back that’s capable of having a big night….

A win for LSU and they improve to 3-0 in the SEC. The Rebels are trying to avoid a second consecutive loss.

 

Louisiana Tech won on the road last night for the first time since 2020 as the Bulldogs defeated U-TEP 24-10. Jack Turner threw for 152 yards and a touchdown, while Tyre Shelton rushed for 104 yards and a score. Tech is 2-and-0 in Conference USA.

The Ragin Cajuns look to pull off the upset later this morning as they visit Minnesota. ULM hosts Appalachian State to begin Sun Belt Play. Nicholls and McNeese meet in Lake Charles to begin Southland play. Both teams are looking for their first win of the season. Northwestern State hosts Eastern Illinois, while Southeastern Louisiana hosts Tarleton State and Tulane takes on U-A-B in New Orleans.

 

In high school football last night, Calvary Baptist defeated Westgate 32-22. Ruston edged Neville 14-10, Oak Grove over Mangham 28-12 and Edna Karr beat Brother Martin 19-7.

Chief Murphy Paul says a supervisor saw the footage and determined that the officers were in violation of the department’s use of excessive force policy and decided to destroy the evidence.

A government shutdown will not stop the Saints from hosting the Buccaneers on Sunday and there’s a 50-50 chance quarterback Derek Carr will play. Carr practiced on a limited basis today with a shoulder injury that knocked him out of the game last Sunday. He’s listed as questionable.

The last Pearl Harbor survivor from Louisiana has passed away. Veteran Joe Richard died at his home in Sunset, two months after he turned 100 years old. Richard was 18-years-old when Japanese fighter planes dropped bombs on Pearl Harbor.

A federal appeals court has told a federal judge in Baton Rouge to wait, before drawing up a new congressional map for Louisiana that has a second majority-Black district. Judge Shelly Dick was scheduled to hold hearings next week but a panel of judges at the 5th U-S Circuit Court of Appeals said Judge Dick was moving too quickly and needed to give the state more time to respond.

Four Baton Rouge Police officers are facing charges after an investigation determined they wrongly tased a suspect during a strip search and then tried to hide the evidence. Chief Murphy Paul says this type of misconduct will not be tolerated…
