A legal analyst says former LSU football player La’el Collins is making the right decision in not rushing to speak to cops about a murder of a pregnant woman. Baton Rouge Police want to interview Collins about the fatal shooting of 29-year-old Brittney Mills. Tim Meche says it’s not in anyone’s interest to talk to police until all the facts are known. He says he’d be surprised if Collins ever talks to police…

Authorities say Collins is not considered a suspect in this case but think he may have useful information since the two had previously been involved in a relationship. Meche says if Collins does not voluntarily speak to police, it’s his Constitutional right…

BRPD says Collins will be interviewed sometime after the NFL Draft. Police have yet to identify a suspect in this case. Meche says the public should let the facts of the case surface before jumping to any conclusions…

The legislation now heads to the Senate Floor. Broome says when you send a child home at such a young age, they aren’t getting an opportunity to learn. Louisiana School Boards Association executive Director Scott Richard says they understand the concern, but don’t want to put such a restriction on principals…:

Richard says he realizes that mistakes can be made, but we have to be able to trust school leaders’ discretion when it comes to making these last resort decisions. Debra Schum is the Executive Director of the Louisiana Association or Principals. She says sometimes they just can’t allow a single student to disrupt the education of others…:

With LSU facing big budget cuts that officials say could cripple the university, hundreds of students showed up on the steps of the state capitol yesterday to speak up about the proposed reduction in higher education funding. LSU Student Government Association  President Andrew Mahtook says the student body is very concerned about the school’s future…

About five-hundred students showed up for the rally, carrying signs that said “No Funds No Future” and “Jindal cuts like a knife.” LSU student Justin Dicharia made the point that Jindal wasn’t even in Baton Rouge to hear from the students…

An 80-percent cut in higher education funding is possible because of a one-point-six billion dollar budget shortfall. Geaux-Vote President Valencia Richardson asks how can lawmakers gut the state’s colleges and universities…

The man accused of killing West Monroe Representative Frank Hoffmann’s 85-year-old sister has been indicted on one count of first degree murder. A Ouachita Parish Grand Jury returned the indictment against Robert Nelson on the April 23rd homicide of Shirley Cagle. Assistant DA Neal Johnson…:

Monroe Police say Nelson confessed to the murder of Cagle who was found in her burning home — but exact cause of death has not been released. Cops believe he was robbing the place in a desperate attempt to support his drug habit. Johnson says the indictment for 1st degree murder carries the possibility of the death penalty…:

Representative Hoffman released a statement regarding the tragic death saying she’s in a wonderful place now, but this is sad for the entire family and a woman who had a great life, worked hard and made a lot of difference in a lot of lives. Tonight is the first round of the NFL draft, but it’s unlikely that former LSU offensive tackle La’el Collins will hear his name. Collins is wanted by police for questioning to see what he knows about the murder of a pregnant woman last week. Baton Rouge Police Corporal Don Coppola says they’ve been told that they’ll get a chance to speak with Collins once the draft concludes…

Police have not named Collins a suspect in the woman’s death. But the situation has some NFL teams nervous about selecting Collins. There was a report earlier today that Collins’ agent was trying to get the offensive lineman in the supplemental draft, but that request was denied by the league, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

It’s been reported the Dallas Cowboys will not pick-up the option on cornerback Morris Claiborne. That means the former LSU star will enter the upcoming season in the final year of his rookie contract.

The Saints have two picks in tonight’s first round and nine picks total over the course of the seven-round draft that will last until Saturday. There’s a lot of talk from all of the teams about selecting players with high character. General Manager Mickey Loomis says they won’t write a player off, just because of a couple of red flags…

At 6:30, the number one ranked LSU baseball team begins a three-game series against Mississippi State in Starkville. The Bulldogs have struggled this season, as they are just 23-and-22 overall, 7-and-14 in the SEC. State has lost 10 of 12 and they are on the verge of missing the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2010.

A Houma domestic dispute this morning involving a woman and her ex-boyfriend, who was holding their holding his 5 year-old inside his home, has ended peacefully. Police were able to negotiate the safe release of the boy, and the unnamed suspect voluntarily surrendered to authorities around noon. He was transported him to the hospital to be evaluated.

A teacher from Beau Chene High School is in trouble after being accused of making out with a student inside a classroom. St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s office spokesman Lt. Clay Higgins says 25-year-old Gregory Fontenot allegedly kissed a 17-year-old after school, but denies the allegation…:

Entergy is reporting over 8500 people are still without power in Southeast Louisiana due to damage from horrible storms Monday. They hope to have everybody back up some time today at the latest tomorrow morning.

Baton Rouge police tells L-R-N that they will meet with former LSU offensive tackle La’el Collins, but that meeting will take place after the draft which concludes on Saturday. Collins was expected to be a first round pick, but he may drop out of the first round, now that police want to talk with Collins in connection with the murder of a pregnant woman. Police have said Collins is not considered a suspect.

Cornerback Jalen Collins, no relation to La’el, also has a chance to be selected in the first round, but it’s been reported Jalen failed multiple drug tests at LSU. NFL analyst Mike Detillier says Collins could be a late 1st first round pick or early second round selection as some teams are not scared off by failed drug tests…

The Saints have two first round picks, the 13th and 31st overall pick.

The Ragin Cajuns baseball team won their seventh straight last night as they defeated UNO 6-3. U-L Lafayette was able to win, even ought they were outhit 10 to 4 for the game. Derek Herrington drove in two runs for the Cajuns, who begin a three game series at Appalachian State this weekend.

In other action last night…McNeese State thumped Southern 13 to 5. The Cowboys have 16 hits and shortstop Connor Lloyd drove in five runs.

ULM scored four runs in the first inning last night, but the Warhawks lost to Nicholls State 16 to 6. The Colonels scored seven runs in the 4th and 5 runs in the 8th inning. Nicholls third baseman Kyle Reese drove in five runs.

Louisiana Tech scored seven runs in the sixth inning as the Bulldogs beat Stephen F Austin 11 to 3. Taylor Nichols hit his second home run of the year and drove in 3 runs. That’s 11 straight non-conference wins for Tech, who host Texas San Antonio this weekend.

LSU begins a three-game series at Mississippi State tonight.
