Holden took first place in the primary with 33-percent of the vote closely followed by Nungesser’s 30-percent. He says he will continue to travel the state to spread his message. Holden says, although this is your standard Republican versus Democrat runoff election, old style party politics will not work here…

Nungesser says he’s put 75,000 miles on his truck meeting voters across the state during this campaign and doesn’t plan on slowing down now. Nungesser says he has a passion and work ethic that sets him apart and plans on spreading that message…

Nungesser is a former two-term President of Plaquemines Parish. He says tourism promotion should be expanded to include hunting and fishing, among other events. Nungesser says tourism professionals from across the state should have their concerns addressed…

The heavy rainfall and strong winds this past weekend have created headaches for sugarcane farmers as they harvest their crop. LSU Ag Center sugarcane specialist, Kenneth Gravois, says the wet harvesting conditions make it more difficult and costly for the farmers. And he says moving the crop to the mills creates problems on the roads too…

Gravois says sugarcane farmers are equipped to handle the wet conditions in the field, but its still has a negative financial impact for producers…

Gravois says sugarcane farmers were enjoying ideal harvesting conditions, until this past weekend, which saw some areas get 10 inches of rain.  He says there will be some losses because the cane was knocked down by the wind and rain, but hopefully the rest of the harvest will go smoothly…

The ad wars have erupted in Lousiaina’s governor’s race. Democrat John Bel Edwards has a new TV ad that tells viewers Republican David Vitter only offers deception and hypocrisy. The Republican Governor’s Association released a spot that calls Edwards just another Obama liberal. UL Lafayette political science professor Pearson Cross says a negative tone has already been set in this race

Politico is reporting that Vitter’s latest ad also links Edwards to Obama and makes the claim the state lawmaker wants to release thousands drug dealers and criminals from prison. Cross expects Vitter to run an aggressive campaign….

Cross says not only will the two candidates be throwing barbs at each other with commercials, so will outside groups, which could make it tough on TV viewers…

Authorities in Tangipahoa Parish say a 14-year-old has been arrested after allegedly making an online threat against Hammond Schools early this morning. Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff Daniel Edwards says the suspect was taken into custody around 9AM. Edwards says the FBI was first alerted about the online threat…

He says the specific threat was a posting of a cartoon character holding a gun saying it would be best if you don’t go to school in Hammond tomorrow. Edwards says, looking at this young person’s history, they believe he had no intention to carry out the threat…

He says while they’re confident the student would not have carried out the threat, there is no way of knowing that on the front end of the investigation. Edwards says the juvenile is charged with terrorizing…

Secretary of State Tom Schedler says only 39% of voters in Louisiana turned in a ballot for the primary Saturday and he hopes to see much more show up for the November election. He says there are another 153 races to be decided statewide in addition to the headliners of governor, Lt. Governor and Attorney General. Early voting begins November 7th.

Authorities in Tangipahoa Parish say a 14-year-old has been arrested after allegedly making an online threat against Hammond Schools early this morning. We’re expected to get more information today from state officials about what they call a major strip club undercover bust on Bourbon Street. The Louisiana Office of Alcohol and Tobacco Control say the month long “Operation Trick or Treat” will reveal specific names and charges against numerous strip clubs, including drugs, prostitution and lewd and immoral acts.

The Hammond Police Department says they’ve arrested a 14-year-old boy into the case of alleged threats made against area schools on social media last night. Authorities insinuate the action was likely a “prank.” The charge is terrorizing.

According to the Tangipahoa Parish School System website, an arrest has been made in the case of the threats against Hammond area schools last night via social media. It indicates the juvenile confessed to posting the threatening message. Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Deputies and Hammond Police conducted a sweep of various campuses this morning but they say no contraband was found. School officials say normal activities may resume.

The opening night of the NBA season has arrived. The Pelicans begin the season tonight in Golden State against the defending champion Warriors. The Pelicans will start the year without their top two centers Omar Asik, who has a calf strain, and Alexis Ajinca, who has a hamstring injury. Swingman Quincy Pondexter won’t return until November and point guard Tyreke Evans recently had knee surgery. Jake Madison is with Bourbon Street Shots and he says the Pels will definitely miss Evans, who is coming off a good season…

Pelicans made the playoffs last season as the eighth seed and were swept by Golden State in the first round. Tip-off is at 9:30.

LSU’s showdown with Alabama will be a night game. Kick-off in Tuscaloosa has been set for seven PM and CBS will televise the game. The Crimson Tide has won four straight.

After a rough start to the season, the Saints are now 3-and-4 and they have a chance to get over the .500 mark as the next two games are at home. This Sunday, New Orleans hosts the Giants, who are 4-and-3 after beating Dallas. The Saints Cam Jordan is one guy that’s playing at a high level, he has five sacks in the last two games.

In college sports….Judy MacLeod has been named the new commissioner of Conference USA. She becomes the first female commissioner of a FBS conference.

UL Lafayette quarterback Jalen Nixon is the Louisiana Sports Writers Association Offensive Player of the Week. Nixon had a career-high 201 yards rushing and 253 yards passing in a loss to Arkansas State last week. Nixon and the Cajuns host ULM this Saturday. The Warhawks have lost five in a row.

And Sterlington has moved into the Top 10 of the Louisiana Sports Writers assocation Class Two-A football rankings. Notre Dame of Crowley remains ranked number one followed by Many.

The State Office of Alcohol Tobacco Control and State Police say they will be announcing the results of a major strip club undercover operation on Bourbon Street. They say names will be released and the charges against numerous strip clubs, including drugs, prostitution and lewd acts.

The wind and rains that rolled through Louisiana the last several days could have a negative effect on the state’s sugar cane crop. Across Acadiana, acres of stalks have been flattened by the high winds from the remnants of Hurricane Patricia and many areas remain flooded. This could have an impact on harvesting and affect the quality of the crop. Sugar cane farming is a $2 billion dollar industry in the state.

Democratic gubernatorial candidate John Bel Edwards has received the endorsement of the Louisiana Sheriff’s Association. LA-Politics-dot-com Publisher Jeremy Alford says the accusations that a private investigator, employed by a firm working for Republican David Vitter’s campaign, taped a conversation involving Jefferson Parish Sheriff Newell Normand may have played a big role in the Sheriff’s Association endorsing Edwards…

Vitter is endorsed by the state’s Oil and Gas Political Action Committee.

The November 7th top-10 matchup between LSU and Alabama in Tuscaloosa is already generating excitement. The Tigers are undefeated and a game ahead of the Crimson Tide in the SEC West. Tuscaloosa Tourism and Sports’ Brant Garrison says LSU always brings lots of energy, but Bama fans are even more fired up that they could take the Tigers spot in the standings…

The man accused in the shooting death of Shreveport Police Officer Thomas LaValley has pleaded not guilty to first degree murder. 27-year-old Grover Cannon entered his plea in state court Monday. LaValley was fatally shot while responding to a family dispute in August. Prosecutors have indicated that they will seek the death penalty against Cannon. Cannon’s next hearing is scheduled for December 21st.

The World Health Organization has announced that ham, sausage, and other processed meats could lead to colon, stomach, and other cancers. The WHO has classified processed meat as “carcinogenic to humans” and red meat as “probably carcinogenic”. LSU Health Sciences Center Registered Dietician Leigh Ann Burns says this report is in no way suggesting you need to become a vegetarian…

The gubernatorial runoff is off and running as the Louisiana Sheriff’s Association has endorsed Democratic candidate John Bel Edwards. LA-Politics-dot-com publisher Jeremy Alford says Republican David Vitter made an aggressive push to get an early endorsement from the Sheriffs. He says Edwards comes from a long line of law enforcement so he had more of an advantage when it came to getting their support…

World Health Organization researchers have found a link between processed meats, like ham and sausage, and cancer. The group placed processed meats in the same danger category as cigarettes and asbestos. Leigh Ann Burns, Registered Dietician with the LSU Health Sciences Center, says people should not equate the cancer risk of eating processed meats to cigarettes…

The undefeated McNeese State Cowboys are ranked seventh in the FCS Coaches Top 25 poll. The Pokes are coming off a 47-27 win over Northwestern State. McNeese is at Abilene Christian this Saturday.

Hype is already building for the November 7th top-10 matchup between LSU and Alabama at 7pm in Tuscaloosa. The No. 4 Tigers and No. 7 Crimson Tide will play as top 10 teams for the sixth time in the last eight meetings including the 2011 Game of the Century which also happened at Bryant Denny Stadium.
