Former Governor Edwin Edwards doesn’t seem to be bothered much by the fact that the National Democratic Party isn’t endorsing him in his 6th Congressional District race against Republican Garret Graves. He says he was never one to fall in line with some of the policies and values of the National Democratic Party which is struggling in the south..:

The Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s office says a man is under arrest for allegedly beating his elderly step dad so badly the victim sustained multiple fractures to his face. They say 51-year-old Simon Fontenot is accused of beating the 82-year-old man with a chair. He is charged with aggravated second degree battery.

The Louisiana Poison Control Center is sending out a warning to parents about the dangers of laundry detergent pods. Director Mark Ryan says the cleaning supply has harmed hundreds of children who mistaken it for candy. He says one of the problems with these pods is that when they first came out they were in a clear container that looked almost like a candy jar…:

Victims of hurricanes Katrina and Rita can apply to receive a settlement check, amounting anywhere from one dollar to more than $400. You may be included in the proposed Settlement Class if you lived, owned property, operated a business or were present within the Parishes of Jefferson, Orleans or St. Bernard, Louisiana at the time of Hurricanes Katrina or Rita. Residents and businesses in those areas are receiving letters in the mail saying they can apply for the benefits.

Today, Bruce Greenstein, the former head of the state department of health and hospitals, pleads not guilty to allegations he lied under oath about awarding a Medicaid contract to a company of former co-worker friends. The Jindal administration has since cancelled the contract with CNSI. Greenstein was indicted on nine counts of perjury.

The Shreveport Police Department says a 25-year-old woman is under arrest on cruelty to juveniles after being accused of throwing her 17 month old across a room. Cpl Breck Scott says cops responded to scene after getting the call early this morning…:

Sad news to report out of the Lafayette-area. Former Ragin Cajuns star and Minnesota Vikings standout Orlando Thomas has passed away. Thomas has been battling A-L-S, also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease, the last ten years of his life. Thomas won a state championship at Crowley High, was an All-American at U-S-L and played seven seasons with the Vikings.

Gas prices continue to drop to numbers we haven’t seen in a little less than half a decade. The current statewide average for a gallon of regular in Louisiana is $2.76. Senior Petroleum analyst Patrick DeHaan says they predict the price per gallon will drop another 5-10 cents before Turkey Day…:

DeHaan says autumn prices typically drop because of the decrease in demand and cost savings associated with the cheaper winter-blend gasoline.

The Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office says a man from Houma is under arrest for allegedly beating up his 82-year-old step father. They say cops arrived to find the victim suffering from multiple injuries. Investigators were told by the man that his step-son, 51-year-old Simon Fontenot, beat him with a chair and repeatedly kicked him in the face. Fontenot is charged with aggravated battery.

LSU lost its fourth straight game to Alabama and Coach Les Miles says this one left a bad taste in his mouth. Jeff Palermo has the story…:

The Louisiana Lottery says the Powerball was hit in Saturday night’s drawing. Someone in Missouri is $203 million dollars richer. The Top prize for Wednesday’s drawing now goes back down to $40 million.

A 44-year-old Colfax man is dead after a two vehicle crash over the weekend in Grant Parish. Louisiana State Police say a pickup truck attempted to make a left hand turn when it collided with a motorcycle driven by Angel Muro. Muro, who was wearing a helmet, was pronounced dead. The driver of the pickup, 31-year-old Jason Daniels of Lafayette, was charged with failure to yield. The investigation is ongoing.

There’s a ceremony today celebrating the long awaited completion of the final section of Interstate 49 in northwest Louisiana. The final stretch of roadway connects Texarkana, Arkansas to Shreveport. Haughton Representative Henry Burns says they are thrilled about the completion of I-49 in Shreveport…

Baton Rouge Police has arrested a man accused of raping a woman at gunpoint. Authorities say once 27-year-old Kenny Davis entered the woman’s apartment, he pulled a gun, demanded money, and then raped her. Davis is charged with aggravated rape, armed robbery, and other charges. Police say Davis met the woman after she posted an advertisement on the internet website, Backpage.

Louisiana State Police say a weekend crash has claimed the life of a Breaux Bridge man. They say 28-year-old Tyrone Celestine was riding his bicycle when he was struck from behind by a truck driven by 52-year-old Lawrence Sam of Breaux Bridge. Celestine was thrown from his bicycle and received serious injuries. He was transported to a local hospital where he later died. Sam was given a chemical breath test and results showed he was over the legal limit. Sam was booked into the St. Martin Parish jail on careless operation, open alcoholic container, and vehicular homicide charges.
