In the 6th Congressional District, Democratic former governor Edwin Edwards says he is not seeking support from the National Democratic Party in his race against Republican Garret Graves. In fact, Edwards says he has had no contact with the party during this campaign…

Sad news to report out of the Lafayette-area. Former Ragin Cajuns star and Minnesota Vikings standout Orlando Thomas has passed away. Thomas has been battling A-L-S, also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease, the last ten years of his life. Thomas won a state championship at Crowley High, was an All-American at U-S-L and played seven seasons with the Vikings.

The Louisiana Poison Control Center is sending out a warning to parents about the dangers of laundry detergent pods which have harmed hundreds of children who mistake them for toys or candy. Director Mark Ryan says kids who ingest the concentrated detergent in these pods can very quickly have central nervous system depression and become lethargic:

He says as with any cleaning product, the first rule is to keep them all up and away from a child’s reach.

Governor Bobby Jindal’s former appointed heath secretary pleaded not guilty to perjury amid allegations he lied under oath about not having contact with his former employer who was awarded a now-cancelled state Medicaid contract. Bruce Greenstein was indicted on nine counts of perjury.
