Tropical Storm Edouard is strengthening as it moves closer to making landfall somewhere near the Louisiana-Texas border in the next few hours. At 10 AM, the center of Edouard was 30 miles south of Cameron, Louisiana with maximum sustained winds of 50 miles per hour. There’s a chance Edouard could strengthen into a hurricane. There’s a slight chance of excessive rainfall for Cameron, Lake Charles and for Vermilion and southern Jefferson Davis Parishes.

Judge Kent Savoie has refused to lengthen the sentence he handed down to former DeRidder Mayor Misti Roberts for having sex with a 16-year-old boy. Roberts received a 90-day prison sentence in June and is set to be released on Sunday. American Press reporter Pamela Sleezer says Judge Savoie admitted he was bothered to hear the teen has “struggled” since the incident.

Kappel says one of the plaintiffs in the case, Lisa Andres, remained in state custody for about three months after her release date.  The Department of Corrections says it does not comment on pending litigation.

Former two-time LSU All-American halfback Jerry Stovall has passed away at the age of 85. Stovall was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 2010 and told KNOE-TV that he never thought such an accomplishment was possible.

Stovall was also the head coach for the Tigers in the early 1980s and served as La Tech’s athletics director in the early 1990s.

We’re keeping a close eye on Tropical Storm Edouard as it makes its way to the coast near the Louisiana-Texas line. On its current track, it’s expected to make landfall sometime this afternoon. As of seven this morning, it was located about 40 miles south-southeast of Cameron, packing maximum sustained winds of 40 miles an hour. While it’s forecast to make landfall as a tropical storm, LSU Health Climatologist Barry Keim says conditions are ripe for the storm to reach hurricane strength.

Legendary LSU football player turned NFL All-Pro and then LSU football coach Jerry Stoval has passed away.  The two-time All-SECer was selected in the first round of the 1963 NFL Draft by the St. Louis Cardinals and played nine years in the NFL.  In a 2009 interview with KNOE-TV, Stovall credited his upbringing for his success.

Former DeRidder Mayor Misty Roberts is set to be released from jail on Sunday, despite an effort by prosecutors to lengthen her 90-day sentence for having sex with a 16-year-old boy while she was the mayor. A legendary LSU football player from West Monroe has passed away. Former All-American Jerry Stovall, who finished second in the 1962 Heisman Trophy balloting, has died at the age of 85. Stovall’s nickname was “Mr. Everything” because he played four different positions at LSU from 1960 to 1962. In an interview with KNOE-TV in 2009, Stovall said he was able to excel on the football field even though he was not the best athlete.
