In College baseball scores across the state last night, LSU took an 11-8 loss to Georgia. Louisiana Tech beat Liberty 9-3, and UL-Lafayette took down App State 5-4 in extra innings. ULM fell to Marshall 7-4, and McNeese walked off Northwestern State in the tenth to earn a 5-4 win.

The funeral of the eight children killed in the Shreveport mass shooting last month will be held at 11 a.m. today at Grove Baptist Church. Services will be livestreamed by KLSA and KTBS. Two men connected with the shooting were indicted by a federal grand jury including the owner of the Bossier City home the shooter fled to, Michael Mayence. ATF Special Agent in Charge Joshua Jackson says Mayence is an Iraq War veteran and former Louisiana National Guard member who knew gunman Shamar Elkins for years…

The other man indicted was Charles Ford, the believed owner of the gun used by Elkins. Funeral costs are being covered by Precious Memories Funeral Home and Sharon Landry’s Love One Louisiana Foundation, and a memorial account has also been set up at Regions Bank on Mansfield Road. Donations can be made under the names Pugh, Elkins or Snow

The Senate Governmental Affairs Committee held a lengthy and sometimes contentious meeting on Friday over proposed Congressional maps to replace the current one struck down by the U-S Supreme Court for being a racial gerrymander. New Orleans Senator Royce Duplessis urged the panel to approve another Congressional map that has two majority Black Districts, one in the Baton Rouge area and the other in New Orleans…

The rain will continue to pour throughout Mother’s Day weekend as a weak front has stalled near the coast and is interacting with a very moist air mass. LSU Health climatologist Barry Keim says multiple inches of rain could make its way across the state…

While Keim says severe storms aren’t too much of a concern high winds, hail and tornadoes are possible. 

A WalletHub study ranking states by their friendliness to working moms place Louisiana dead last. Louisiana ranked 50th in professional opportunities and child care and 40th in work-life balance. Analyst Chip Lupo says the gender pay gap is one thing that really stands out in this study.

Two people connected with last month’s mass shooting in Shreveport, where a gunman killed eight children, have been indicted by a federal grand jury. Michael Mayence was one of the men indicted. Gunman Shamar Elkins drove to Mayence’s home in Bossier City after killing eight children—including seven of his own. U-S Attorney for the Western District of Louisiana Zachary Keller says Mayence was also in possession of guns while being subject to a domestic violence injunction…

The LSU baseball team dropped the first of three games at 6th-ranked Georgia this weekend in an 11-8 loss last night. Tigers reliever Devin Sheerin picked up the loss and falls to 3-and-2 on the season after allowing four runs on four hits in 2.1 innings with one walk and three strikeouts. Freshman right-hander Marcos Paz will get the start on the bump in game two at 6:00 tonight.

LSU fell to 6th-ranked Georgia 11-8 in game one of the weekend series against the Bulldogs. The Tigers led 7-3 after the top of the fourth behind homers from Omar Serna Jr., John Pearson and Cade Arrambide to go along with a two RBI single for Steven Milam and a sac fly from Derek Curiel. Georgia would go on to tie the game and then take the lead on a 3-run shot in the bottom of the seventh as the Tigers drop to 29-and-22 on the season and 9-and-16 in SEC play. Jay Johnson’s squad will hope to bounce back in game two of the series tonight at 6:00.

UL-Lafayette edged out App State for a 5-4 win behind a two-out RBI single from freshman Colt Brown in the top of the tenth. Starter Cody Brasch and a trio of Cajun relievers held the Mountaineers offense, ranked at the top of the Sun Belt in batting average, runs and hits, to just four runs on five hits as UL improves to 28-19 and 15-10 in the conference. The Cajuns will look to clinch the series in game two at 2:00 this afternoon.

The Diamond ‘Dogs took game one of their final road Conference USA series at Liberty with a 9-3 victory over the Flames last night. Starting right-hander Declan Dahl allowed four hits and struck out three through four innings, and freshman closer Thomas Allen slammed the door on the flames to earn his fourth save giving up just one hit in three shutout innings. Graduate reliever Luke Nichols picked up his second win on the year as the Bulldogs improve to 30-21 overall and 16-9 in the conference. Game two of the series in Lynchburg is set for 2 p.m. this afternoon.

McNeese clinched a three-game Southland Conference series win over Northwestern State last night with a 5-4 walk-off sac fly from graduate outfielder Isaiah Keller in the tenth inning. It is the second back-to-back extra inning walk-off win over the Demons and fifth straight game between the two programs decided by one run. Game three in Lake Charles is set for 2 p.m.

ULM suffered a 7-4 loss at Marshall in game one of their weekend series last night, and Grambling dropped a series opener at Arkansas-Pine Bluff 14-1 in seven innings.

The LSU women’s basketball team cruised past Oklahoma in its first game of the SEC tournament with a 112-78 victory this afternoon. MiLaysia Fulwiley and Flau’jae Johnson led the team with 22 and 21 points as LSU posted their 14th 100-point win of the season, one shy of the NCAA record. The Lady Tigers will advance to a rematch with top-seeded South Carolina tomorrow at 3:30. LSU dropped a disappointing 79-72 home loss to the Gamecocks in their only meeting this season, and Kim Mulkey is 0-and-6 against South Carolina since arriving in Baton Rouge.

The second-ranked LSU baseball team will look to bounce back from its pair of disappointing midweek upsets in a series hosting Sacramento state this weekend. The Hornets are off to a sluggish 3-and-9 start to the season and have lost their last five straight. First pitch in the box tonight is set for 6:30

The Merryville Panthers took home their first girls basketball state championship in school history with a 49-46 win over Midland in the Division IV non-select finals.

Louisiana Tech is suing conference USA seeking an injunction to allow the school to depart for the Sun Belt before the upcoming football season. LA Tech did not notify CUSA of plans to leave before the required 14-month notice and the two sides have negotiated terms of departure since this summer. Lincoln Parish Journal publisher Malcolm Butler says the current holdup is around two-million-dollars’ worth of NCAA distributions and who is entitled to it.

The Louisiana Tech baseball team dropped its fifth straight game Wednesday night after falling 8-2 to Arkansas State. Coach Lane Burroughs says the Bulldogs have to continue to go to work while putting the losses behind them.

Louisiana Senator John Kennedy questioned former Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem days before her firing on a border security ad campaign he claims was really about boosting her own name recognition. The firm used to produce the spot reportedly has ties to Noem and the competitive bidding process was not followed.

616 barrels of the 750 barrels of crude oil released at the Louisiana Offshore Oil Port facility near Grand Isle on February 26 has been recovered by offshore skimmers. After stopping the initial leak in minutes, LOOP, federal and state agencies have been working to clean released oil and protect wildlife.

The University of Louisiana System filed a lawsuit on behalf of Louisiana Tech against Conference USA Wednesday. In July, LA Tech announced plans of exiting the conference to join the Sun Belt before the 2026 football season, but the move has been delayed thanks to pushback from Conference USA and bylaws that require 14-month notice. Lincoln Parish Journal Publisher Malcolm Butler says these rules didn’t stop an exodus of member schools in 2021.

Saints defensive end Cameron Jordan will become a free agent for the first time in his 15-year career Wednesday. The 36-year-old could still end up in New Orleans but may look for more money or a chance to win a Super Bowl elsewhere. LSU is scheduled to host Cincinnati quarterback Brendan Sorsby. Sorsby is ESPN’s top-ranked portal prospect and will head to Baton Rouge after visiting Texas Tech today. He was identified as a target for coach Lane Kiffin earlier this week.

Ole Miss is headed to the Fiesta Bowl to face Miami with a trip to the national championship on the line, but there’s been uncertainty about whether the six LSU assistant coaches on the Rebels’ staff will continue coaching. Tiger Rag Editor Glenn Guilbeau says any hesitation is on the Ole Miss side.

LSU will face Texas A&M tomorrow in their first SEC game of the season. The 12-and-1 Tigers are off to maybe their strongest start under head coach Matt McMahon, but he says conference play will be another level of competition.

The Lady Tigers lost their first game of the season after 11th-ranked Kentucky hit a last-second three pointer to win 80-78 in LSU’s SEC opener last night. Fifth-ranked LSU will have a quick turnaround as they visit No.12 Vanderbilt Sunday. Head coach Kim Mulkey says she needs to see more as her team prepares for a tough beginning to conference play.

The Saints’ final injury report ahead of the regular season finale against the Falcons Sunday was released today. Defensive tackles Bryan Bresee and Nathan Shepherd, running back Alvin Kamara and receiver Chris Olave were all ruled out while linebacker Demario Davis, guard Dillon Radunz and quarterback Spencer Rattler are questionable. Wideout Mason Tipton was also added to injured reserve along with tight end Jack Stoll.

The McNeese men’s basketball team will host Lamar at 6:00 tonight. The Louisiana Tech Bulldogs will visit Middle Tennessee at 6:30 while the Lady Techsters tip-off against Sam Houston at the same time.

The college football transfer window opens today, and Yahoo Sports’ Nick Bromberg expects new LSU head coach Lane Kiffin to show his prowess navigating the portal. Kiffin has identified rebuilding the Tigers’ depleted offensive line as a top priority, and Bromberg says he’ll also hunt depth at quarterback, d-line and wide receiver.

LSU redshirt sophomore receivers Kyle Parker and Destyn Hill entered the transfer portal. Parker caught 31 passes for 330 yards and four touchdowns this season. Hill was a top 115 recruit out of Edna Karr and joined the Tigers after two seasons with Florida State. Both have two years of eligibility remaining.

The Lady Tigers’ undefeated start to the season came to an end last night as they fell 80-78 to 11thranked Kentucky in their SEC opener. The Wildcats hit a game-winning three to seal the game with half a second left to silence the P-MAC crowd and knock off fifth-ranked LSU. The Lady Tigers visit 12th-ranked Vanderbilt Sunday.

Ole Miss is in the CFP semifinals after upsetting Georgia 39-34 in the Sugar Bowl last night. The Rebels overcame a nine-point halftime deficit behind a lights out performance from quarterback Trinidad Chambliss. For Georgia, it’s their second straight Sugar Bowl loss, and head coach Kirby Smart says the back-and-forth game was one to remember.

McNeese will host Lamar in men’s basketball tonight on the nation’s fourth longest active home win streak. The Cowboys will look to make it 19 straight at home in a rematch of last year’s Southland Conference championship game at 6:00.

Louisiana Tech will visit Middle Tennessee in another postseason rematch from a season ago. The Bulldogs fell to the Blue Raiders in a heartbreaking overtime loss in the Conference USA quarterfinals last year. Both teams are coming off wins in their first conference matchup. Tip-off is at 6:30.

The lady Techsters will also be tipping off at 6:30 at home against Sam Houston.  Both teams are 7-and-4 heading into the C-USA opener.

The Superdome will host Ole Miss and Georgia in the Sugar Bowl tomorrow night, and the Rebels’ offense will be led by LSU Offensive Coordinator Charlie Weis. Weis followed Kiffin to Baton Rouge but agreed to stay on as the offensive play caller for Ole Miss’s playoff run. He says he’s had to balance prepping for Georgia with establishing a new regime at LSU with the transfer window fast approaching.

The Sugar Bowl is set to kick off tomorrow at 7:00

In College hoops yesterday, Grambling stayed undefeated at home, beating Centenary 90-58 behind an 18-point outing from forward Jimel Lane off the bench. The 6-and-7 Tigers will host Parie View A&M Saturday.

Southeastern fell to Incarnate Word 79-70 and drop to 4-and-9 on the season and 1-and-3 in Southland play. The Lions will look to bounce back at home against SFA Saturday.

Louisiana Tech are Independence Bowl Champs for the fourth time in school history. The Bulldogs scored 17 points in the fourth quarter to overcome an 11-point halftime deficit and defeat Coastal Carolina 23-14. The Dogs’ defense allowed 248 yards in the first half but forced three turnovers and shut out the Chanticleers in the second. Senior cornerback Cedric Woods says they were ready for anything.

The victory  is the Bulldog’s first Bowl win since 2019.

The Pelicans will look to end their four-game skid against the Bulls tonight. Chicago will be without starting guards Josh Giddey and Coby White while guard Jose Alvarado is absent for the Pels on the second of his two-game suspension, and forward Herb Jones is sidelined with an ankle injury. Tip-off in Chicago is at 6:00.
