The attorneys representing LSU football commits Dae’Quan Wright, Zxavian Harris and other athletes seeking a fifth season of eligibility are moving forward with their lawsuit against the NCAA, with a hearing scheduled Monday. Wright and Harris were blocked from signing with LSU by an SEC rule that punishes schools for signing any former pro player, but the attorneys believe that to be a violation of the temporary restraining order they were granted.
Southern kicks off its football season on Saturday with a SWAC matchup against Alabama State. Star redshirt junior running back Trey Holly is poised for a big season under first-year head coach and Pro Football Hall of Famer Marshall Faulk. Faulk says he’s been working with Holly since the spring.

The wait for college football is over. FCS schools kick off around the country tonight with three games in Louisiana. 20th-ranked Southeastern hosts Houston Christian in a Southland Conference opener, and Nicholls welcomes Mississippi Valley State to kick off year two under Tommy Rybacki. Both games begin at 6:00.
At 7:00, Northwestern State faces off against Louisiana Christian for the first time in nearly 60 years. It is the Demons’ third season under head coach Blaine McCorkle. Their only win in the last two years came in last season’s opener versus Alcorn State. McCorkle says the biggest improvement a team makes during the season is between games one and two.
UL Lafayette is officially renaming its baseball stadium to Tony Robichaux Park, and the stadium’s club area will be named the Russo Stadium Club. The name honors the former Cajuns baseball coach who led the team for 25 seasons and recorded 914 wins.
