Eating shrimp from an area of the Gulf of Mexico impacted by the 2010 Deepwater Horizon oil spill poses no acute health risks or increased cancer risks according to Tulane researchers. Research professor Mark Wilson says they surveyed over one-hundred Vietnamese residents in New Orleans East that tend to eat more shrimp than most people and that helped them reach the conclusion that Gulf shrimp are safe to eat…

A dedication ceremony scheduled today celebrates the long awaited completion of the final section of Interstate 49 in northwest Louisiana. Haughton Representative Henry Burns says there are a couple of small sections of the Interstate that need to be tied in to I-220 in Shreveport. He says once that’s done, they’ll be at full gallop for economic development…

Louisiana State Police say a weekend crash has claimed the life of a Breaux Bridge man. They say 28-year-old Tyrone Celestine was riding his bicycle when he was struck from behind by a truck driven by 52-year-old Lawrence Sam of Breaux Bridge. Celestine was thrown from his bicycle and received serious injuries. He was transported to a local hospital where he later died. Sam was given a chemical breath test and results showed he was over the legal limit. Sam was booked into the St. Martin Parish jail on careless operation, open alcoholic container, and vehicular homicide charges.
