The US Supreme Court has agreed to hear a challenge from a Louisiana man who was convicted by a non-unanimous jury verdict of the 2016 murder of a New Orleans woman. Matt Doyle has more.

24th Judicial District Attorney Scott Perrilloux says his office will seek the death penalty against 21-year-old Dakota Theriot. He’s accused of killing five people in a multi-parish killing spree in January. Theriot pleaded not guilty today in the shooting deaths of three members of the Ernest family. He’s also accused of killing his parents in Ascension Parish.

Baton Rouge Representative Ted James files legislation that would give certain felons the opportunity to serve on juries. On March 1st, about 36-thousand people who have been out of prison for at least five years were given the right to vote and James wants to grant these folks with the chance to perform jury duty…

James’ bill will be heard in the legislative session that begins next month.

The state Legislative Auditor’s office released a report today that shows LSU paid a faculty member over 400-thousand dollars in salary and benefits for nearly three years even though that person admitting to not performing work for the university during that time. Assistant Director of Financial Audit Services Barrett Hunter says management at the School of Veterniary Medicine did not take sufficient action to address the employee’s lack of performance…
