Hines says the girlfriend called her friend, 36-year-old Valerie Bass, to the residence and that’s when the homicide occurred…

Forunato says inside the vehicle with 41-year-old Michael Pierce and 34-year-old Melanie Pierce were there children, ages 4 and 11 months. He says when the couple was questioned, the suspects both admitted to injecting heroin earlier in the day…:

Education Superintendent John White told the Baton Rouge Advocate the education department’s website was down today because the Jindal administration refused to make a payment. A spokesperson for the division of administration says that was not the case and called it a technical glitch. Executive director of the Associated Professional Educators of Louisiana, Keith Courville, says either way it’s disappointing

After it was down this morning, the education department’s website was up and running again by midday. A statement from the D-O-E said they are glad that the bill was paid. Courville says he can’t understand why it wasn’t paid on time

The Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s office says a Denham Springs couple is under arrest after being found passed out in a vehicle in Metairie yesterday. Authorities say inside the vehicle with 41-year-old Michael Pierce and his 34-year-old wife, Melanie, were there children, ages 4 and 11 months. They say, when questioned, the couple admitted to injecting heroin earlier in the day. The suspects were charged with child endangerment and several drug related charges.

Louisiana State Police say a traffic accident on Louisiana Highway 421 in Ascension Parish has claimed the life of a pedestrian. Authorities say the incident happened before noon today and they have confirmed one fatality, so far. Highway 421 has been shut down in both directions between LA 934 and LA 621 in St. Amant while police investigate.

Figures released today show two different stories about Louisiana’s job market. In July, the state’s unemployment rate was at 5.4 percent, up from 5 percent in June. However, in a separate survey, Louisiana employers reportedly added 7,700 workers to their payrolls, which is a record high.

A Rayville tax preparer is facing 18 felony counts of suspected fraud associated with his work. Donald Ray Jackson was arrested accused of filing fraudulent income tax returns containing fabricated business losses. In fact, seven of his clients told authorities that they didn’t own businesses. Jackson’s alleged crimes cost state taxpayers more than $325,000 in fraudulent income tax refunds.

Police in Shreveport say a 40-year-old man is dead and a friend of his live in girlfriend is charged with the murder. They say it was an alleged fatal stabbing that happened at the couple’s hope in West Shreveport yesterday morning. 36-year-old Valerie Bass is accused of stabbing Isaac McClain in the neck during an argument. The girlfriend is not charged.

And this just in. Apparently Ronal Serpas is out police chief in New Orleans. According to sources Serpas will announce his retirement at a news conference today.

This time a judge is set to determine whether or not Governor Bobby Jindal had the constitutional authority to suspend test contracts that are tied to the academic standards. Officials in St. Landry say a man his under arrest for animal cruelty after hundreds of birds and about 20 dogs were taken from his trailer near Lawtell under horrible conditions. They say 61-year-old Donald LaFleur’s business was selling birds, but he was keeping far too many in such a small space.

Police in New Orleans say a man was killed early this morning around 2am after being run over by at least 2 vehicles, including an 18-wheeler, on I-10. They aren’t identifying the victim at this time.

The Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s office says a mother and father were arrested Sunday afternoon after they found them passed out in a car with their children inside. They say the 41-year-old Michael Pierce and his wife 34-year-old Melanie Pierce of Denham Springs were unconscious as a result of over-dosing on heroin. Concerned citizens called cops after seeing the car at Bonnabel and Vets in Metairie. The children, aged four and 11 month were not hurt and are in the care of family.

Police in Natchitoches say one man is dead and another injured after a small plane crashed around 11am Sunday. They say 81-year-old Jack McCain of Natchitoches was taken to a Shreveport hospital where he is in serious condition. 83-year-old Thaddeus Longlois died at the scene according to investigators. The FAA is investigating the incident.

We’re less than two weeks away from LSU’s kicking the season off against Wisconsin and Coach Les Miles has provided very little information on who is leading the battle for the starting quarterback. Miles says Anthony Jennings and Brandon Harris are improving and he likes how they are competing:

The Tigers held a scrimmage on Saturday and LSU did not provide any individual statistics on the quarterbacks.

In the preseason AP Top 25 Poll released Sunday, LSU is ranked NO. 13. The Tigers are one of eight SEC teams ranked. Florida State is NO.1.

The Ragin Cajuns were also among those who held their second scrimmage of preseason camp on Saturday. UL Lafayette Coach Mark Hudspeth says all of the players came out of it healthy and starting quarterback Terrence Broadway was sharp…:

Saints Quarterback Drew Brees was back at practice on Sunday in a full capacity. The QB says he does plan to play Saturday night in Indianapolis when the Black and Gold take on the Cotls in the third preseason game of the year.

They say it was 7-year-old Terrez Coleman who was pronounced dead at a hospital. Officials say the family of 5 was in their car when another vehicle passed and shot at them. Deputies in Ascension Parish are expected to identify the teen who was found dead last week near the Mississippi River in Donaldsonville. They are waiting for autopsy results to determine the positive identity of the victim. The body was found just a few days after 15-year-old Brandon Augustus disappeared.
