The Rasmussen Survey polled 800 likely voters, 44-percent supported Cassidy, while 41-percent said they would vote for Landrieu. LSU Political Science Professor Robert Hogan says the numbers don’t look good for Landrieu

An email statement from the Cassidy campaign says the Baton Rouge Congressman’s message of common-sense conservative reform is resonating. But Hogan says the poll’s results speak more to the dissatisfaction of Landrieu

Police in Sunset say their town was rocked by a rare murder yesterday evening. They say a young man is in jail and 35-year-old Stefan Lemelle lost his life after being shot in the chest. Chief Alexcie Guillory says they responded to the call around 7:50pm Thursday evening…:

Guillory says Lemelle was pronounced dead at the scene. He says witnesses reported the suspect and the victim were involved in an altercation when the shooting took place…:(Guillory says this is only the 3rd murder he’s investigated in his 12 years as chief.)

Guillory says they identified the suspect as 20-year-old Jed Guidroz who initially fled the scene of the crime. He says cops immediately began searching for the alleged shooter…:(Guidroz turned himself in and was booked into the St. Landry Parish jail for second-degree murder.)

The Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s office announces the seizure of over 300 large marijuana plants and over 250 pounds of processed marijuana with an estimated street value of about one million dollars. During their investigation, authorities discovered a “cartel like” marijuana grow in a wooded area near the village of Tangipahoa. Four people have been arrested in connection with the seizure. The investigation continues in cooperation with the DEA.

Judge Wilson Fields has dismissed the lawsuit brought against Senator Mary Landrieu by State Representative Paul Hollis. The lawsuit claimed Landrieu cannot represent Louisiana in Congress because she is not a resident of the state. In his dismissal of the suit, Judge Fields stated that according to the Constitution, the lawsuit was filed too soon because residency can only be challenged once a senator is elected.

In his dismissal of the suit, Judge Fields stated that according to the Constitution, the lawsuit was filed prematurely.

The Baton Rouge Fire Department says a man was arrested Thursday morning after allegeldy pouring gasoline on a woman and threatening to set her on fire. They believe the suspect, Joseph Ruiz, doused the woman from head to toe with gas when she refused to leave the house. The cops were called and the man was charged with attempted aggravated arson and aggravated battery. The woman was sent to the hospital and is in stable condition.

If you’re going to the LSU game tomorrow there are some reminders being issued by the University. Post-game football traffic includes a contraflow southbound on Nicholson or Highway 30. Louisiana is in short supply of Ag teachers and leaders at LSU are working to change that. Mike Burnett is the executive associate dean with the College of Agriculture at LSU. He says surrounding states, like Texas and Mississippi have been actively recruiting Ag teachers from Louisiana…:

A high court hearing is scheduled for today that deals with a law toughening teacher tenure requirements in Louisiana. Lawyers will present arguments about a Baton Rouge judge’s decision that a 2012 law which included changes to tenure was unconstitutional. The legislation is known as Act 1 and the State District judge says it violates a constitutional provision requiring bills to have only one item. The Jindal Administration is challenging that ruling.
