President Donald Trump says a new sugar trade agreement with Mexico is “a very good one for both Mexico and the U.S.” General Manager of the American Sugarcane League Jim Simon (See-moan) says the U.S. brought a trade case against Mexico because they flooded our market with subsidized sugar. He says this agreement should end Mexico’s illegal dumping practices.

The International Trade Commission found Mexico guilty of dumping huge quantities of sugar into the U.S. market. Simon says the market flooding deflated prices, which hurts local farmers. He’s says this agreement should create a more stable market.

Simon says while they’re pleased with the agreement, any trade agreement is only as good as how well it’s enforced. He says now that the plan is in place, we move into the enforcement phase.

Director of the Louisiana Cancer Prevention and Control Program, Donna Williams, says the Louisiana Comprehensive Cancer Control Plan will help ensure people have access to the health services they need.

Williams says about half of all cancers can be prevented or detected early and cured. She says treatment for early stages of breast cancer is minimal compared to a late stage, and cervical cancer can also be treated or even prevented.

Williams says the plan is about making sure people can get into the doctor’s office to get these preventative services. She says they’re also working in the communities to reduce some of the factors that contribute to cancer, like obesity and smoking.

The state Office of Alcohol and Tobacco Control suspends the license of Reggie’s Bar near the LSU campus following a sting operation by Baton Rouge Police. Sgt. L’Jean McKneely says officers patrolled Tigerland after learning of fights that were taking place in the parking lot of the strip of bars.

McKneely says officers made 37 arrests during the Monday night sting operation. He says 16 of those arrested were between 16 and 18-years-old. He says a variety of charges were handed down, all misdemeanors.

Reggie’s Bar has had its alcohol permit suspended, and the ATC is scheduled to discuss the matter in an emergency hearing next week. McKneely says they want to make sure everyone is safe and having fun responsibly.

A day after Baton Rouge Police announced nearly 40 arrests on charges ranging from underage drinking to fighting, a popular Baton Rouge bar near LSU has had its liquor license suspended. It says Reggie’s may still be open, but they won’t be allowed to serve any alcohol. The Tigerland establishment was where cops conducting a sting which resulted in the arrests.

Saints Quarterback Drew Brees says he’s starting a coed, youth flag football league called Football ‘N” America he says will save the sport and make it safer for kids to play and learn. He says he didn’t put pads on until his freshman year in high school, and flag football not only taught him great fundamentals about the sport…:

LSU head football coach Ed Orgeron has been named No. 81 in Athlon Sports & Life magazine’s ranking of 130 college football head coaches. Louisiana Tech’s Skip Holtz is ranked 67th, Tulane’s Will Fritz is 59th, ULM’s Matt Viator is 101 and Lousiaina’s Mark Hudspeth is 89th.

The Monroe News-Star is reporting ULM has interviewed for its A-D Vacancy Alcorn State athletic director Derek Horne and East Carolina senior associate athletics director Nick Floyd. Floyd is also a former associate commissioner at Conference USA and senior associate A-D at Southern Miss.

Donte’ Jackson is the new men’s basketball coach at Grambling State. Jackson comes to Lincoln Parish after spending the last three seasons at Stillman College, an NAIA school in Tuscaloosa. His overall record at Stillman was 66-21 and he won the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference in 2016.

Campus police arrested three LSU basketball players for shooting paintballs at pedestrians. Campus police issued summons on June 16th to sophomore Wayde Sims and freshmen Galen Alexander and Mayan Kiir. In a statement to Tiger Rag, Head Coach Will Wade says he’s aware of the situation and they are dealing with the matter internally. Wade also says he’s extremely disappointed in these players and the poor judgement they used.

Rummel wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase will play in the Under Armour All-American game. The six-foot-two playmaker will announce his college decision next week. LSU and TCU have recruited him hard.

The Houston Rockets are trying to build the next super team in the NBA. The Rockets have acquired former New Orleans Hornet Chris Paul. C-P-3 will be teamed up with MVP finalist James Harden in the Rockets backcourt. Paul is 32-years-old and still looking to play in a conference final. The Rockets have also traded for former LSU Tiger Tim Quartermann.

Cox is bringing its terabyte internet data caps to Louisiana. This means customers will have to pay $10 for every 50GB of data they consume over the limited plan, starting July 6th — with a two-bill grace period that will last up until September. The company expects the number of customers affected will be slim at about 2%.

Able-bodied food stamp recipients without dependents would be required to use job search and job training resources under a proposal by Baton Rouge Congressman Garret Graves. Graves says this is a common sense approach to reform the SNAP program.

Two people and a toddler are dead after a police chase in New Orleans ended in a fatal crash. State Trooper Melissa Matey says the tragic incident began when troopers attempted to stop a vehicle for a stolen license plate, but the driver refused to comply.

The chase ended when the vehicle crashed into a truck.

Officials at the Denka Performance Elastomer plant in Laplace could face criminal charges, as the EPA finds the facility is releasing high concentrations of carcinogens. Wilma Subra with the Louisiana Environmental Action Network says this chemical chloroprene must be kept out of the air.

The company has agreed to retrofit the facility and reduce emissions before the end of the year.

Entergy will build a new natural gas-fired plant in Westlake after a unanimous vote of approval from the Louisiana Public Service Commission. Company spokesperson Michael Burns says this will create new jobs in the area.

The plant is expected to be up and running by 2020.

EPA says residents of St. John the Baptist Parish could have an increased risk of cancer due to a plant in Laplace releasing carcinogens into the air. She says the company argues not all the violations were made under their watch..:

Authorities say a 2-year-old is among three people killed after a car chase ended in a crash in New Orleans East. State Police say units tried to stop the vehicle downtown for a stolen license plate. The driver fled then collided with a truck and ran off the road, and at least two people were ejected during the crash, including a 2-year-old and both died. LSP says a third person in the vehicle committed suicide.
