EPA says residents of St. John the Baptist Parish could have an increased risk of cancer due to a plant in Laplace releasing carcinogens into the air. Wilma Subra with the Louisiana Environmental Action Network says Denka Performance Elastomer had 31 valve leaks and which did not have the proper tools to measure the chemical emissions. She says the company argues not all the violations were made under their watch..:

Authorities say a 2-year-old is among three people killed after a car chase ended in a crash in New Orleans East. State Police say units tried to stop the vehicle downtown for a stolen license plate. The driver fled then collided with a truck and ran off the road, and at least two people were ejected during the crash, including a 2-year-old and both died. LSP says a third person in the vehicle committed suicide.
