Able-bodied food stamp recipients without dependents would be required to use job search and job training resources under a proposal by Baton Rouge Congressman Garret Graves. Graves says this is a common sense approach to reform the SNAP program.

Two people and a toddler are dead after a police chase in New Orleans ended in a fatal crash. State Trooper Melissa Matey says the tragic incident began when troopers attempted to stop a vehicle for a stolen license plate, but the driver refused to comply.

The chase ended when the vehicle crashed into a truck.

Officials at the Denka Performance Elastomer plant in Laplace could face criminal charges, as the EPA finds the facility is releasing high concentrations of carcinogens. Wilma Subra with the Louisiana Environmental Action Network says this chemical chloroprene must be kept out of the air.

The company has agreed to retrofit the facility and reduce emissions before the end of the year.

Entergy will build a new natural gas-fired plant in Westlake after a unanimous vote of approval from the Louisiana Public Service Commission. Company spokesperson Michael Burns says this will create new jobs in the area.

The plant is expected to be up and running by 2020.
