Jefferson Parish Sheriff Newell Normand has called for a three o’ clock news conference where he’ll discuss an officer-involved fatal shooting. It occurred just before midnight last night in Metairie as deputies were chasing a man who was acting suspiciously. According to the sheriff’s office, the suspect pointed a gun at the pursuing deputy and the deputy, David Dalton, fired six shots at the man who had a handgun in his possession. The identity of the deceased individual has not been released.

Louisiana ranks second for the number of police officers killed in the line of duty this year, according to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund. President and CEO, Craig Floyd, says seven Louisiana officers have been killed in the line of duty in 2016. He says we need to have more respect for our officers….

Four of the officer deaths were by gunfire, two by vehicular assault, and one in a car accident.

Governor Edwards is in Philadelphia, the site of the Democratic National Convention. He’s set to receive an award today that recognizes his pro-life stance. Natchitoches Police say no charges will be filed at this time regarding the shooting death of a 15-year-old. The teenager was shot several times in a parking lot on Sunday afternoon. Police say he was in possession of an AK-47 style weapon at the time of the shooting and the shooter, a 21-year-old man, told authorities he fired his weapon when he was approached by the 15 year-old who is now dead. The District Attorney’s office is reviewing the case.

A Jefferson Parish sheriff’s deputy has fatally shot a suspect inside a newspaper warehouse. The shooting ended a foot chase. Deputies received a call before midnight last night about two people “rolling shiny objects down a street.” The sheriff’s office the says the man shot had a nine millimeter handgun. No word on what happened to the other suspect or an identity of the man who was killed.

The Climate Prediction Center is calling for above average temperatures for the next three months. State Climatologist Barry Keim says 2015 was the warmest on record dating back to the 1880s and 2016 could be another record breaker….

A robbery suspect has been fatally shot by deputies in Jefferson Parish. Deputies were chasing after two men toward an I-10 service road and one of the individuals ran inside a newspaper, warehouse where he allegedly turned around and pointed a gun at the officer. The sheriff’s office says the deputy fired six shots and they say the man who died was armed with a handgun.

The Southland Conference Media Day will take place today in Lake Charles at L’auberge. Sam Houston State is the preseason favorite to win the league as the Bearkats return 16 starters from a team that reached the semifinals in the FCS playoffs last year. McNeese went 10-0 last year in the regular season, but they have a new coach and need to find a new starting quarterback.

LSU kicker Colby Delahoussaye said in a social media post that he anticipates he’ll make a full recovery in a very short amount of time. Delahoussaye was the lone survivor in a one-vehicle crash in Wisconsin that claimed the lives of two others. Delahoussaye reportedly has second-degree burns on his left thigh and some bruising and stitches.

Former LSU basketball player Randy Livingston has been named as an assistant men’s basketball coach for the Tigers.

Alex Bregman remains hitless after two days in the major leagues.

At around midnight, a Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s deputy fatally shot a suspect, who allegedly pulled a gun and pointed it during an officer while on a foot chase. Deputies responded to an area near an I-10 service road after getting reports of two suspicious men rolling a shiny object down the street. The sheriff’s office says the victim was carrying a nine millimeter handgun. The victim’s name has not been released.

Oil prices have fallen to a three month low, and Associate Director of the Tulane Energy Institute says it’s because of an abundant supply. Smith says some companies jumped the gun and started drilling, expecting prices to rise, but the increase in supply pushed them back down. He says we’ve seen the number of oil rigs increase for the past three or four weeks in a row.

He says eventually oil prices will reach 60-dollars a barrel, but there will be ups and downs along the way.

Over a dozen Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Deputies went to Dallas today to deliver checks to help the families of the officers who were killed in the July 7 attack. Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Brennan Matherne says the money was raised in just one day, and they were humbled by the love and support from the community.

While members of the Louisiana National Guard were training in Slidell, someone broke into their vehicles at the facility in Franklinton. Franklinton Police Maj. Justin Brown says there aren’t security cameras there yet because the facility is still under construction. He says they will continue to investigate until the culprit is behind bars.

The owners of a used car dealership in Lafayette are facing criminal charges for allegedly stealing thousands of state tax dollars. Byron Henderson with the Louisiana Department of Revenue says owners of Lauco Auto Sales, Shawn Calvit and Michael Vilchez, underreported the sale price of more than 100 vehicles and pocketed the sales tax difference. He says the value of the cars sold was more than $1 million.

Franklinton Police are searching for a suspect or suspects who broke into 25 vehicles that belong to members of the Louisiana National Guard. Maj. Justin Brown says robbers stole money, electronic, and personal weapons from the vehicles. He says the secure facility is patrolled regularly:

A man who was driving drunk and traveling over 100 miles per hour in a fatal wreck on Mardi Gras Day in 2015 has plead guilty to vehicular homicide. 25-year-old Bryce Chapman faces up to 30 years in prison. t Lafayette prosecutor Daniel Landry says Chapman is a first time offender, but that likely won’t help his case…

14 deputies from the Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office traveled to Dallas to deliver donation checks to two foundations to help the families of the fallen officers who were killed in the July 7th attack on police.
