At around midnight, a Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s deputy fatally shot a suspect, who allegedly pulled a gun and pointed it during an officer while on a foot chase. Deputies responded to an area near an I-10 service road after getting reports of two suspicious men rolling a shiny object down the street. The sheriff’s office says the victim was carrying a nine millimeter handgun. The victim’s name has not been released.

Former state lawmaker Rick Gallot has been picked as the new president of Grambling State. Gallot says one of the first things he wants to do as president is to restore the university’s undergraduate nursing program, which lost its temporary approval status in 2015….

Gallot also plans on having the job for awhile. Grambling has had 10 different presidents in the last 25 years.
