Jefferson Parish Sheriff Newell Normand has called for a three o’ clock news conference where he’ll discuss an officer-involved fatal shooting. It occurred just before midnight last night in Metairie as deputies were chasing a man who was acting suspiciously. According to the sheriff’s office, the suspect pointed a gun at the pursuing deputy and the deputy, David Dalton, fired six shots at the man who had a handgun in his possession. The identity of the deceased individual has not been released.

Louisiana ranks second for the number of police officers killed in the line of duty this year, according to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund. President and CEO, Craig Floyd, says seven Louisiana officers have been killed in the line of duty in 2016. He says we need to have more respect for our officers….

Four of the officer deaths were by gunfire, two by vehicular assault, and one in a car accident.

Governor Edwards is in Philadelphia, the site of the Democratic National Convention. He’s set to receive an award today that recognizes his pro-life stance. Director of Democrats for Life, Kristen Day, says one in three Democrats identify themselves as pro-life, and she hopes the Democratic Party keeps that in mind as they try to grow the party…
