A new poll on the governor’s race shows Republican David Vitter’s numbers keep going down in the November 21st runoff. The Nextstar TV stations/JMC Analytics survey shows Democrat John Bel Edwards with a 20 point lead over the US Senator. Pollster John Couvillon says with less than three weeks to go, Vitter has a lot of work ahead of him…:

There’s a happy ending after the Slidell Police Department helped an 86-year-old woman locate her wedding ring after she lost it while handing out candy on Halloween. Sgt. Daniel Seuzeneau says the ring was found in the woman’s front yard near where she was giving out candy to trick or treaters…:

The latest independent poll on Louisiana’s gubernatorial runoff shows Democrat John Bel Edwards with a 20 point lead over Republican David Vitter. The Nextstar TV stations/JMC Analytics survey shows Edwards receiving 52-percent of the vote compared to Vitter’s 32-percent. Pollster John Couvillon says these results are not that surprising…

He says 16-percent of those surveyed were undecided and they split pretty evenly between the two candidates. Couvillon says the survey shows Edwards receiving 25-percent of the Republican vote which is not good news for Vitter…

LSU says The Voice of the Tigers, Jim Hawthorne, will not be able to call the game this weekend against Alabama as he recovers from a medical procedure. They say it’s the first game Hawthorne will miss since he got the play-by-play job in 1984. Filling his shoes Saturday in Tuscaloosa will be longtime LSU women’s basketball announcer Patrick Wright…:

Hawthorne is 71 and he already announced earlier this year that he’d be retiring from broadcasting after the end of the men’s basketball season, spring 2016. LSU says they hope he’ll be back in a few weeks. Wright says last week the radio team asked him to call the Alabama game and he’s been practicing his college football play-by-play all weekend…:

Hawthorne’s replacement next season will be Chris Blair, but this weekend he’s still working his other job as Georgia Southern’s announcer. Wright says they may briefly lament Hawthorne’s absence during the broadcast, but Jim himself would want to keep the story about the game between No. 4 LSU and No. 7 Alabama…:

There’s a happy ending after the Slidell Police Department helped an 86-year-old woman locate her wedding ring after she lost it while handing out candy on Halloween. Sgt. Daniel Seuzeneau says the ring was found in the woman’s front yard near where she was giving out candy to trick or treaters.

Seuzeneau says the ring slipped off the woman’s hand after she was wearing it on her pinky because it didn’t fit on her ring finger and fell in the grass. He says everyone is relieved it was found at home.

Seuzeneau says she’s the happiest woman he’s come across in years. He says her husband passed away years ago and the ring has a lot of sentimental value.

The 86-year-old woman from Slidell who was desperatley searching for her wedding ring she thought she lost in a bag of candy Halloween night, has found it. The local police department posted on Facebook that the woman ended up finding it near the spot where she was handing out candy in her front yard. The woman and her family asked cops to help get the word out as it was feared the precious ring could be in a child’s trick or treat bag. The family is thanking everyone who shared the post on Facebook and offered assistance.

The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries says a Pineville man is under arrest accused of vandalizing a church. They say agents followed the vehicle of 21-year-old Charles Melancon and he claimed the loud noise they heard was gunshots coming from words. Invesitgators later discovered the church door was kicked in and the suspect later admitted to the crime. Melancon was booked by Grant Parish deputies for unauthorized entry and simple criminal damage to property.

The St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office says former NFL player Marvin White, a Port Barre native, has been arrested again and booked with theft and resisting an officer. Capt. Clay Higgins says the 31-year-old walked into a gas station and allegedly took some candy then didn’t pay for it before telling the cashier, “Call the cops, I’m Marvin White. I’m the best.”

The National Institutes of Health awarded a $6.7 million grant to Tulane University to support a study on the lasting health, demographic and socioeconomic impacts of Hurricane Katrina on New Orleans and the broader region. They say the goal is to create a detailed portrait of where the city and different groups of Katrina survivors stand more than a decade after the disaster.

The Saints opponent this Sunday is Tennessee, who announced today that they’ve fired head coach Ken Whisenhunt, who was 3-and-20 as the head coach for the Titans. Former Falcons offensive coordinator Mike Mularkey has been named the interim head coach for the rest of the season.

After a record breaking performance against the Giants, Saints quarterback Drew Brees is up for a couple of weekly awards that fans can vote on. Brees is one of three nominees for the FedEx Air Player of the Week and Brees is one of five nominees for the Castrol edge Clutch Performer of the Week. Winners will be announced on Thursday.

And in other NFL news…there are reports former Saints running back Pierre Thomas has signed with the 49ers.

The Pelicans are looking for their first win tonight as they host Orlando at the Smoothie King Center. The Magic are also winless as former Ragin Cajuns star Elfrid Payton is averaging 10 points and five assists a game, but shooting just 36-percent from the field.

The first college football playoff rankings come out tonight. Will LSU be ranked number one? Ohio State, Baylor, Clemson, TCU, Michigan State, Iowa and Oklahoma State are also undefeated.

A big game on Saturday against Alabama for LSU running back Leonard Fournette and he can likely look forward to winning the Heisman Trophy in December. But Coach Les Miles doesn’t want his talented sophomore to think about postseason awards, just victory…

Lafayette Police say the suspect in a fatal shooting Monday has turned himself in to authorities. They say 58-year-old Todd Hebert and 46-year-old Edmond Brown were arguing in the street when Hebert pulled a gun and shot Brown. When officers arrived, Brown was found lying dead in the street. Hebert surrendered to police and was charged with second degree murder.

The latest independent poll on Louisiana’s gubernatorial runoff shows Democrat John Bel Edwards with a 20 point lead over Republican David Vitter. In the survey, Edwards received 52-percent of the vote with Vitter tallying 32-percent. WVLA-TV and JMC Analytics surveyed 600 likely voters across the state. The poll also shows Edwards leading Vitter among undecided voters, 54 to 35-percent.

Fellow Republicans, incumbent Buddy Caldwell and challenger Jeff Landry, will face off November 21st for the state’s Attorney General’s seat. Landry, a former Congressman and Tea Party favorite, says Caldwell is in for a difficult fight because the AG’s office is currently filled with cronyism, nepotism and corruption…
