It took about five hours to find 35 year-old John McMullen, but when they did, he was arrested on several charges, including attempted first-degree murder of a police officer. Two other people in the car were also arrested.

Higgins says the hospital reported the 5-year-old had what appeared to be cigarette burns on his hands and torso. The child was brought to the emergency room by his father. Higgins says authorities spoke to both the father and child…

Deville denies the accusation, but Higgins says since the injuries occurred under her care, she is held responsible. The child is recovering and living with his father. St. Landry Child Protection Services is continuing to investigate. Higgins says a crime like this is just shocking…

Wiley says a passenger in the vehicle, who is identified as 35-year-old John McMullen, came out shooting and shot the deputy in the hand. Wiley says the deputy was released from the hospital and will hopefully make a full recovery. Wiley says, after a five hour search, McMullen was found hiding near the Assumption Parish line…

A man and a woman, who were in the car with McMullen, were arrested earlier. Wiley says McMullen is wanted in Florida for numerous charges, including attempted first degree murder. He says McMullen and the others are facing major charges now in Louisiana… (Charges include attempted first-degree murder of a police officer.)

LSU football received a verbal commitment today from a five-star recuirt. Riverdale cornerback Donte Jackson chose the Tigers over the Georgia Bulldogs. Jackson had five interceptions for the Rebels last season, average 38 yards on kick returns and he was also outstanding on offense. Jackson said today there’s a chance he can play on both offense and defense.

LSU basketball rebounded from a tough loss on Saturday to Texas A-and-M to beat Florida last night. The loss ended the Gators 20-game SEC home winning streak. Jarell Martin had 22 points and Tim Quarterman added 15 points.

In other action last night…Sam Houston State defeated Nicholls State 62-39, McNeese State beat Abilene Christian 63-56. Desharick Guidry had 21 points and a career-high 16 rebounds. And Texas A-and-M Corpus Christi had its way with Northwestern State, beating the Demons 88-76.

You will be able to watch every LSU game this season, whether it’s on your computer, tablet, labtop or your TV. Most of the games will be streamed, but 20 of the 56 regular season games are set to be shown on television, whether it’s one of the ESPN channels or CST.

Southeastern Louisiana’s Bryan Bennett has been added to the South Roster of the Senior Bowl. Bennett threw for 18 touchdowns and 23-hundred yards last season for the Lions. He’s the third player from S-L-U to get a chance at playing in the Senior Bowl, which is this Saturday at 3 PM.

The Saints have reportedly fired their director of college scouting Rick Reiprish after 11 years with the club. It’s expected that former Dolphins General Manager Jeff Ireland will take his place.

In the NBA…the Pelicans host the Los Angeles Lakers tonight. Anthony Davis is expected to play. He missed the last two games because of a toe injury. New Orleans has a record of 20-and-21 as they’ve hit the halfway point of the season.

State Police report a 73-year-old man was killed in a two-vehicle accident yesterday afternoon on US 61 in St. Francisville. They say Felix Lipoma of Gonzales was pulling out of a driveway when his truck collided with a passing 18-wheeler. Lipoma’s truck flipped several times. He was pronounced dead at a local hospital.

Ascension Parish Deputies have arrested the man wanted in the shooting injury of a fellow deputy. Authorities say the deputy stopped a vehicle when responding to a shoplifting complaint when the suspect, 35-year-old John McMullen opened fire and shot the cop in the hand. McMullen faces many charges and he’s also wanted in Florida on charges including first degree murder.

The state is set to begin accepting proposals on alternative ways to get rid of the 15 million pounds of explosive material at Camp Minden. Louisiana Progress Action spokeswoman Frances Kelley says with all of the uncertainties surrounding an open burn of the material, officials should look at other solutions to the problem…:

The Jefferson Davis Sheriff’s office has arrested an Elton High School teacher for allegedly molesting a student. Authorities say they were contacted by school officials after they received a report of an inappropriate relationship between Justin Fruge and a student. After an investigation, Fruge was arrested on two counts of molestation of a juvenile.
