Infectious disease specialist Dr. John Vanchiere at LSU Health Shreveport is also a principal investigator on the Pfizer Vaccine trial, and he says Pfizer’s effectiveness rate of 95-percent is remarkable.

The LSU Tigers finally start the second half of their season today as they face an improved Arkansas team who is three and four, after failing to win an SEC game in 2018 and 2019. LSU’s TJ Finley is expected to start at quarterback and the Bayou Bengals are hoping for a bounce-back performance from the freshman from Ponchatoula. Finley had three turnovers as LSU lost 48-11 to Auburn last time out. Tigers receiver Terrace Marshall expects Finley will do just fine today…

We’ll see if LSU can establish the run. The Razorbacks are allowing 183 yards on the ground this season. And LSU’s defense has to limit the big plays. The Tigers rank in the bottom nationally in three different explosive play categories. Kick-off is at 11 AM.

Multiple media outlets are reporting that Taysom Hill not Jameis Winston will start at quarterback in tomorrow’s Saints game against the Atlanta Falcons. Coach Sean Payton is not confirming those reports…

And Saints cornerback Marshon Lattimore is questionable for this game with an abdomen injury. He says any side effects from the injection means your body is responding to the vaccine building an immune response.

The Saints announced Friday they have placed QB Drew Brees on injured reserve. Brees had previously appeared on the team’s injury report during the week, but now that he’s on the injured reserve he will miss a minimum of three weeks.  Brees fractured ribs in the last two games he played along with a collapsed lung.

The proposed protocol for vaccine distribution is healthcare workers that treat COVID patients, then older adults that live in congregant setting such as nursing homes.  Vanchiere says in Louisiana 40-percent of COVID deaths were in nursing homes.

The article stated officials at LSU’s athletic department and other school administrators ignored repeated complaints against abusers and denied victims’ requests for protection. Edwards says this unacceptable.

Edwards says the ignored abuse was not only related to athletics at the university but included the Greek system and students not involved in athletics nor Greek life. Edwards says the matter should be investigated ASAP.

Interim school president Thomas Galligan has hired the law firm Husch Blackwell to do an independent, comprehensive review of the school’s Title IX policies and procedures.

The state health department reports 4,814 COVID-19 cases today in Louisiana, however about 25-hundred of those reported cases are from a backlog due to a processing error. Half of the backlog is from cases on Halloween.  A more accurate number for today’s total is still high with 2,276 cases.

State officials say we are seeing a third surge in new cases of the coronavirus, but the governor is NOT planning to issue a new stay at home order…

Reports are that Taysom Hill will get the Start at Quarterback for the Saints when they take on the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday, in place of Drew Brees who is out with fractured ribs and a collapsed lung.  Running Back Alvin Kamara says they rallied around Teddy Bridgewater last season when Brees got hurt and they’ll do it again.

Kamara has not practiced much this week due to a foot injury but he says he’s good to go.

The Tulane Green Wave lost a close one last night against Tulsa 30-24.  Tulane drops to 5-5 on the season with the loss.  If the Green Wave could’ve pulled out a victory, it would’ve been their second straight win against a top 25 team after beating Army 38-12 last week.  Tulane will host Memphis next Saturday.

NBA free agency will begin at 5 pm today, where teams can agree to deals with players who are on the open market.  With a lot of guards currently on the roster, The New Orleans Pelicans could target a center in free agency to add some much-needed size to the lineup.  There are a number of affordable big-men in free agency for the Pelicans to sign.  The team could also re-sign Derrick Favors, who played in the post for New Orleans last season.

Louisiana Tech lost their second player this week, as wide receiver Adrian Hardy will opt-out of the remainder of the season and prepare for the 2021 NFL draft.
