Scammers are out in force during the holiday season, taking advantage of those trying to donate to charity, trying to steal the information of online shoppers, and finding any way to shake down unsuspecting victims of a buck.  Your Local Security spokesperson Cassie Tolhurst says in 2017, $20,ooo was forked over to charity scams in Louisiana alone, so it’s important to validate where your donation is going.

Cut 4 (08) “…you think it is.″

Tolhurst says if you get a phone call to donate money, take the proper precautions to verify who is on the other end of the call.

Cut 5 (10) “…they will not mind.”

Tolhurst says when doing your holiday shopping, make sure to you unique passwords for each login, and if you are having trouble keeping track of them all…

Cut 6 (07) “…locked down and secure.”

There’ll be a hearing this morning in the case that’s delayed construction on a portion of the Bayou Bridge Pipeline, after owners of land in St. Martinville say crews were illegally building, clearing trees and digging up land on their 32 acre property for nearly 60 days. Louisiana Bucket Brigade Director Anne Rolfes says Bayou Bridge parent company ETP never had legal permission to enter the property.

Cut 7 (08) “…did neither.”

Several pipeline protesters who had been invited to the property by its three owners, were arrested and charged after allegedly interfering with construction efforts on the disputed land.

Rolfes, who opposes the pipeline for legal and environmental reasons, says the case could have substantial ramifications for oil companies on just how much leeway they actually have to seize private property. She says a ruling in their favor would set some of the first limits.

Cut 8 (09) “…take it.”

Construction on that portion of the pipeline has been delayed since ETP agreed to cease construction on the property pending a hearing back in September.

Rolfes says the fact that this case is in court is indicative of the vague, and lightly defined power oil companies have to seize private property in Louisiana.

Cut 9 (09) “…the permits.”

ETP said previously that they intend to push for the completion of the expropriation of the track of land.

Congressman Ralph Abraham says soybean farmers are having issues with accessing the Market Facilitation Program, originally designed to help farmers, because of the recent congestion with crop elevators.  He says the only step being take right now, is a bill that he’s pushing that alters the payment structure for the MFP.

Cut 10 (13)   “…recoup their losses.”

Abraham says at $5 million, the package to help soybean farmers he’s pushing is small in the bigger picture.

Cut 11 (12) “…passed very quickly.”

Abraham says time is of the essence as farmers are in danger of facing bankruptcy due to the issue, and he’s willing to do what it takes to get the ball rolling as fast as possible.

Cut 12 (12)   “…make this happen.”

A new study shows that food cravings can be reduced.  The intense desire to indulge in certain foods can sabotage efforts to maintain healthy eating habits and body weight.  LSU Pennington Biomedical Research Center nutritional scientist Dr. John Apolzan says one proven way to reduce cravings for a certain food is to eat it less often.

Cut 13 (07) “…not the amount.”

Apolzan says living a more active lifestyle and dropping a few pounds can also have an effect on shaving the desire for certain foods.

Cut 14 (09) “…reduce food cravings.”

Apozan says often pairing consumption with external activities can lead to cravings, so changing up routines may be your best bet.
Cut 15 (10) “…your typical activities.”

The Saints are on a 10 win streak, looking comfortably like the best team in the NFL behind the most efficient season in Drew Brees’ career, and a surging defense that’s forced 10 interceptions and 12 fumbles. With five games left in the season, the Saints could eclipse the franchise regular season win record of 13. Head Coach Sean Payton says it’s a record that kinda creeps up on you.

Cut 16 (13) “…different challenge”
And it’s been a total team effort, as the Saints special teams have cut down on the big mistakes that have haunted Payton teams of past years. Leading that effort is kicker Will Lutz who’s made a stellar 95 percent of his field goals, up from 86 percent last year. Payton says his 2016 signing was crucial.
Cut 17 (17) “smart decision”

The Saints face a resurgent Cowboys team Thursday night in Dallas. The Cowboys are on a three game win streak and are in the thick of the playoff hunt.

Louisiana has seen a drastic drop in the temps around the state, as today many areas are 20 to 30 degrees colder than the same time yesterday.  State Climatologist Barry Keim says the bright side is, at least the temperatures will be going up by the end of the week.

Cut 5 (08)  “…pretty mild temperatures.”

But we’ll have to survive tomorrow first, with temperatures dropping even further than they did today.

This past Saturday proved to make a huge impact on locally owned shops and restaurants as the movement known as “Small Business Saturday” saw big numbers.  National Federation of Independent Business Louisiana spokesperson Dawn Starns says looking at the full shopping period between Thanksgiving and Christmas, more than two-thirds of small business owners expect sales to be stronger than 2017.

Cut 11 (10) “…this up”

Kragthorpe suffers from Parkinsons and says the hit, which landed on his pacemaker, made his heart flutter.

A crash involving a suspected impaired driver took the life of 13 year old Kyrin Pete of Lake Charles during the early morning hours of Thanksgiving Day. Trooper Derek Senegal says this should serve as a reminder to those indulging in alcohol to make better decisions in an effort to stay off the roadways.

And the Pelicans take on the Celtics tonight in New Orleans in a battle of two potential playoff teams off to uninspiring starts. Anthony Davis, who’s been a near requirement for any hope of victory so far this season is questionable for the showdown, but says he is planning on taking the court. The Pels currently sit 8th in the West, and a loss would knock them all the way down to 12th. The game tips off at 7PM.

It’s Cyber Monday which is a chance for consumers to find great deals on the internet.

Senator John Kennedy is expected to announce this week on whether he’ll run for Governor in 2019 against John Bel Edwards.

With less than two years in DC in one of the most prestigious positions in all of politics, and a growing DC fan base, many wonder why he would want to come home.

Kennedy has long made it clear he’s had ambitions for the position by running for Governor before and could do so again.

Recently, a C-B-S network news crew filmed Senator Kennedy substitute teaching at McKinnley High School which is something he’s done for a few years now.

The national media television story fueled speculation that Senator Kennedy could be ramping up his efforts to possibly seek the Louisiana Governorship.

Small Business Saturday was first recognized in 2010 and has seen a growth in awareness over the years as an estimated 104 million consumers participated in the day this year.

National Federation of Independent Business Louisiana spokesperson Dawn Starns says it’s a positive reflection of the economic outlook.

Joshua Darr says that’s because when local media dies, the often more heavily partisan national outlets fill the gap. He says that may Balkanize voters who previously may have spent more time considering the local issues when considering a candidate, and not just their party affiliation.

LSU suffered an absolute heart breaking loss on Saturday to Texas A&M as the Aggies outlasted the Tigers 74-72 in seven overtimes. A&M sent the game into overtime with a touchdown on the final play of regulation, after a second had been put on the clock. But Coach Ed Orgeron says that second should have never been put up, because they’ve been told that if the previous play ends with three seconds or left you can’t stop the clock by snapping the football and throwing it to the ground
