The two women who were shot and killed during a movie in Lafayette last week are being laid to rest today. 21-year-old Macyi Breaux was a popular student who was studying to be a radiology technician at LSU Eunice. 33-year-old Jillian Johnson was an outgoing artist who ran retail boutiques in Lafayette and New Orleans. At last report, 4 of the 9 other people who were injured remain hospitalized and are expected to recover.

The St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s office says they’ve arrested 15 suspects for their alleged involvement in a somewhat organized heroin ring. Deputies say 12 people remain at large and the group is believed to be responsible for distributing large amounts of heroin in the west part of the northshore parish. The multi-jurisdiction investigation dubbed Operation Fishnet has been going on for 14 months and has just come to an end. Anyone with information on the suspects at large is urged to contact authorities.

Cops say a woman was arrested over the weekend for allegedly saying over and over that she was going to shoot somebody at a Baton Rouge Cinemark movie theater. An East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office report indicates 27-year-old Gaynell Haydel made threats to moviegoers and employees with some even leaving the theater. The suspect was booked on counts of terrorizing, disturbing the peace and resisting arrest.

Arguments over gun control are flaring again in the wake of last week’s Lafayette theater shooting. Violence Policy Center Executive Director Josh Sugarman says too many people ignore the fact that gun violence takes a heavy toll on Louisiana…:

The Shreveport Police Department says a man was shot and killed by cops after officers responded to a call from two women who say they were being held captive. Apparently the man left the residence and when he was located by officers he began shooting at them then cops returned fire. Authorities say the man died at a local hospital and four officers are on paid leave pending the results of an investigation.

The next governor will have to address whether or not TOPS students should continue to have their tuition fully paid for by the state. Scott Carwile has more from the candidateson the issue…:

Jindal said that members of the Westboro Baptist Church “better not try that nonsense here.”
