Governor Bobby Jindal has made it official today announcing via social media that he is running for President. On his campaign website, BobbyJindal.com, the governor posted a video telling his three children about the big decision…:

State Attorney General Buddy Caldwell announces the arrest of 36 suspected child predators as a result of a multi-state agency effort:

He says “Operation Broken Heart” was part of a coordinated nationwide effort to apprehend those who engage in child sexual exploitation.

The St. Martin Parish Sheriff’s office says three people are dead, including a 3-year-old little girl, after a fatal domestic situation. Spokeswoman Ginny Higgins says they received a frantic 911 call from one of the victims, 72-year-old Leola Blanchard, who advised that she’d been shot by her husband, 58-year-old Clifford Blanchard…:

She said Clifford Blanchard apparently also shot and killed his 3-year-old granddaughter before being fatally shot by his son, 32-year-old Scott Blanchard who was also injured. The investigation is ongoing.

Discussions between the Louisiana High School Athletic Association and officials have broken down as referees who work high school athletic events are looking for a pay raise. Refs in seven sports are seeking a pay increase between five to ten dollars per official, per event. LHSAA executive director Eddie Bonine says he can’t increase referee pay, only principals can and that can’t happen until January…

The Louisiana High School Officials Association says they’ve only received two pay raises over the last 25 years. The refs say they are tired of promises, which is why they’ve rejected a proposal for any increase in pay to begin in 2016. If a deal is not reached, it could leave the LHSAA scrambling for officials when school starts in August.

Former Saints Head Coach Jim Haslett will serve as a consultant for the Penn State Football team. That’s according to Penn State head coach James Franklin. Haslett is a Pittsburgh native.

Have you ever sat in Alex Box Stadium and a bird pooped on you during the game? Well, crews are working on attaching netting to the bottom side of Alex Box’s grandstands overhang. They hope the netting will keep birds away. Construction is expected to take four months.

McNeese State announces that at least three of its football games will be shown on television or the internet. The Cowboys season opener against LSU will broadcast live on the SEC Network. The Pokes home opener on September 12 against UIW will be shown on the American Sports Network and the Cowboys game at Stephen F Austin will be carried on ESPN 3 at 6 PM.

William Mafi the second, a junior college all-american receiver has signed to play with Northwestern State. He has two years of eligibility and can play this fall. He’s six-foot-two, and caught 72 passes for 963 yards and six touchdowns for a community college in California last season.

Three people are dead, including a three year old, and one person was critically injured after a shooting in St. Martin Parish Tuesday night. Sheriff’s deputies responded to a domestic disturbance just outside Breaux Bridge just before 8pm. A spokeswoman says all four had been shot and they are not looking for any suspects. Further details on this incident are being released at this hour.

Bogalusa authorities are investigating a double homicide. Assistant Police Chief Gene Crosby says they received a call yesterday in reference to a shooting in Washington Parish…:

One of the victims has been identified through the media as Shannon Hudson, a Baton Rouge rapper known as Young Ready.

The Baton rouge Police Department says a man turned himself in Tuesday after he was wanted for allegedly stealing his dad’s identity to take out nearly $70,000 in loans. 29-year-old Gabadiah Jemar McClay was booked into parish prison on counts of forgery and identity theft according to a department spokesman.

The Louisiana chapter of the NAACP has written a letter to Governor Jindal asking that the “Sons of the Confederate Veterans” license plate be removed as an option here. The St. Martin Parish Sheriff’s Office says a Tuesday night shooting in Breaux Bridge, that they describe as a domestic disturbance, has left three people dead and another critically injured. When officers arrived at the scene, they discovered three people fatally shot aged 72, 58 and a three year old little girl. We’ll have more on this as it develops.

According to a website called nerdwallet, consumers in The Bayou State pay the highest percentage of their annual salary for insurance in the country. Researcher Jeffrey Chu says homeowners insurance is sky high here because of weather issues and so is auto insurance because of the large number of claim rates…:

Virginia forces a third and final game in the College World Series Final Round as they upended Vanderbilt 3-0. The Commodores are trying to win their second national championship in as many years. The Cavaliers are looking to become the Atlantic Coast Conference’s first national championship baseball team since 1955. The winner take all matchup happens at 7PM tonight and you can watch on ESPN.

In the majors, third baseman Luis Valbuena hit two home runs as the Houston Astros unloaded on the Los Angeles Angels 13-3. The Astros have a four game lead over the Rangers in the American League West. And the Washington Nationals got past the Atlanta Braves 3-1.
