It’s estimated that Saturday’s prayer rally on the LSU campus that featured Governor Bobby Jindal drew over three-thousand people. Jindal, who is considering a presidential run, didn’t talk politics while on stage, but did ask the crowd to pray for President Barack Obama. Jindal also said that God has given us the book of life…

The event also drew hundreds of protesters upset the American Family Association paid for the event. The A-F-A has been classified as a “hate group” by the Southern Poverty Law Center, because of it’s views on same sex relationships.

The Revenue Estimating Conference meets today in order to determine the budget shortfall Louisiana faces this fiscal year and next. A $1.4 billion deficiency was projected for next fiscal year, but that will more than likely grow as the price of crude oil continues to plummet. It is expected that mid-year budget cuts will be needed to offset the deficit.

The LSU Tigers are on a two-game winning streak after beating Vanderbilt in overtime on Saturday. The Bayou Bengals host South Carolina on Wednesday night.

Louisiana Tech men’s basketball rebounded from its first loss in Conference USA action by beating rice on Saturday 58-45. The Bulldogs are six and one in the league and they’ll host Western Kentucky on Thursday night, who is a perfect 7-and-0 in league play.

U-L-M, who once won six in a row, has now lost two straight. The Warhawks are at Troy this Thursday.

In the NBA…the Pelicans have won three straight as they defeated Dallas 109-to-106 last night. Anthony Davis had 28 points and 10 reobunds. The Pels will go for their fourth win in a row tonight as they host the 76ers.

In the NFL Pro Bowl last night…Saints tight end Jimmy Graham had two touchdown grabs as Team Michael Irvin beat Chris Carter’s team 32-28.

The LSU Tigers found out today that they are ranked second in the Baseball America preseason poll. Vanderbilt, who is the defending national champs, are ranked number one. Houston is number three. It was the Cougars who defeated the Tigers in last year’s regional.

When it comes to 2015, LSU will have several young pitchers on the mound, but Coach Paul Mainieri says he has confidence he’ll have a strong staff by the end of the season, because of pitching coach Alan Dunn…

State Police report a single-vehicle accident in St. Tammany Parish has left one dead and another injured. Authorities say 56-year-old Brian Chopin was speeding when he lost control of his vehicle in a curve and went off the road. The vehicle became airborne before hitting several trees. Chopin was pronounced dead at the scene. His wife, 53-year-old Lori Chopin received moderate injuries in the crash and was transported to a local hospital. The investigation is ongoing.

State Police say an Oak Grove man is dead after a single vehicle crash on I-20 in Richland Parish. They say 70-year-old Jerry Ratcliff was traveling west when, for unknown reasons, his truck traveled off the highway and struck a tree. State Police say a Port Barre man is dead after a single vehicle accident over the weekend. Authorities say 28-year-old Lance Lomas was riding an ATV on the westbound shoulder of US 190 in St. Landry Parish when he veered right and drove the vehicle into a ditch which caused the ATV to flip. Lomas was thrown from the vehicle and suffered critical injuries. He was pronounced dead at a local hospital. Officials say impairment is a suspected factor in the crash.

Saints quarterback Drew Brees threw for 163 yards and two touchdowns for Team Carter.

In the NBA, Anthony Davis scored 28 points and pulled down 10 rebounds as the Pelicans edged the Dallas Mavericks 109-106 last night. Tyreke Evans added 24 points and 12 assists in the contest. The Mavs’ Monta Ellis lead all scorers with 36. The Philadelphia 76ers come to the Smoothie King Center tonight with a 7PM tipoff.

On the college hardwood, LSU outlasted Vanderbilt 79-75 in overtime. Jordan Mickey lead all scorers with 25 as the Tigers improve to 4-2 in SEC play.

In Sun Belt Conference, Georgia State defeated UL-Lafayette 75-64 and Georgia Southern upended ULM 57-53. Georgia Southern now has a half game lead over Georgia State, ULM, and Texas-Arlington for top spot in the league.

In the Southland, Northwestern State pounded McNeese 93-67, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi downed UNO 71-67, and Nicholls upended Central Arkansas 71-61.
