LSU Baseball Coach Paul Mainieri says sophomore left-hander Jared Poche will start opening day on February 13th against Kansas, but he’s not sure on what the rest of his starting rotation will look like. Mainieri says he has several freshmen to choose from and the situation will play itself out during the non-conference portion of the schedule…

LSU is expected to be young on mound this season, but Mainieri has confidence he’ll strong staff by the end of the season, because of pitching coach Alan Dunn.

Saints tight end Jimmy Graham had three receptions, including two for touchdowns, and former LSU wide reciever Odell Beckham Jr. had 89 receiving yards as Team Irvin edged Team Carter 32-28 in last night’s NFL Pro Bowl. Saints quarterback Drew Brees threw for 163 yards and two touchdowns for Team Carter.

In the NBA, Anthony Davis scored 28 points and pulled down 10 rebounds as the Pelicans edged the Dallas Mavericks 109-106 last night. Tyreke Evans added 24 points and 12 assists in the contest. The Mavs’ Monta Ellis lead all scorers with 36. The Philadelphia 76ers come to the Smoothie King Center tonight with a 7PM tipoff.

On the college hardwood, LSU outlasted Vanderbilt 79-75 in overtime. Jordan Mickey lead all scorers with 25 as the Tigers improve to 4-2 in SEC play.

In Sun Belt Conference, Georgia State defeated UL-Lafayette 75-64 and Georgia Southern upended ULM 57-53. Georgia Southern now has a half game lead over Georgia State, ULM, and Texas-Arlington for top spot in the league.

In the Southland, Northwestern State pounded McNeese 93-67, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi downed UNO 71-67, and Nicholls upended Central Arkansas 71-61.

Louisiana Tech bounced back from its first Conference USA loss with a 58-45 win over Rice.
