An Arnaudville man was arrested accused of stealing more than $36,000 from his elderly grandmother. The St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Department says Martin Thibodeaux made 34 unauthorized withdrawals from the woman’s bank account. The woman’s safety deposit box, which had an unknown amount of money inside, was found empty as well. Thibodeaux is charged with financial exploitation of the elderly.

The St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s office has arrested a woman for allegedly burning her child with cigarettes. After the child’s father brought him to the ER, medical staff observed signs of torture on the 5-year-old while treating him for burns to his hands and torso. After an investigation, authorities arrested 26-year-old Jessica Deville of Opelousas on a charge of cruelty of a juvenile.

State Police report that a fourth person has now died as a result of a two-vehicle crash that occurred in Natchitoches Parish over the weekend. Authorities learned that 10-year-old Kaylee West of Montgomery succumbed to her injuries earlier today. Three others, including two juveniles, were injured in the crash.

The US Supreme Court refuses to take up a Baton Rouge case that questions whether a priest should report allegations of sex abuse against a minor. The Diocese of Baton Rouge asked the nation’s highest court to review the case, after the Louisiana Supreme Court ruled that priests should be subject to mandatory reporting laws.
