Tonight is the first round of the NFL draft and there are two players from LSU that could hear their name called, but both are dealing with off the field issues. One is offensive tackle La’el Collins, who Baton Rouge police want to question about the murder of a pregnant woman. NFL Draft analyst Mike Detillier still believes Collins is a sure fire first rounder…

Cornerback Jalen Collins, no relation to La’el, also has a chance to be selected in the first round, but it’s been reported Jalen failed multiple drug tests at LSU.

The Saints have a total of nine draft picks, including two in the first round. General Manager Mickey Loomis says its unrealistic to think that all nine players they will select, will be future starters…

The NFL Draft concludes Saturday.

Louisiana Tech scored seven runs in the sixth inning to propel the Bulldogs to an 11-3 win over Stephen F. Austin last night at JC Love Field. Tech improves to 21-21 and have now won 11 consecutive non-conference contests. The Bulldogs host Texas – San Antonio this weekend.

Nicholls State erupted for seven runs in the fourth and added another five in the eighth on their way to a 16-6 win over ULM. The contest was a slugfest with both teams combining for 29 base hits on the night. The Colonels hope to keep the momentum going as they host Houston Baptist in a weekend Southland Conference matchup. The Warhawks welcome the Trojans of Troy this weekend to Monroe.

Senior Connor Lloyd went 4-for-5 at the plate and tallied 5 RBIs as McNeese State pounded Southern 13-5. Next up for the Cowboys, a three game weekend series against Stephen F. Austin at Cowboy Diamond. Southern hits the road to play arch rival Grambling.

And UL-Lafayette doubled up UNO 6-3. The Ragin Cajuns are on the road to face Appalachian State this weekend. The Privateers host Abilene Christian.

It’s been reported that LSU offensive tackle La’el Collins is returning to Louisiana to speak with authorities about a murder of a pregnant woman. Collins was in Chicago this morning for the NFL draft, but ESPN has reported that Collins is heading back to Baton Rouge. Corporal Don Coppola says Collins is not a suspect in the murder of 29-year-old Brittney Mills, but the two had a previous relationship and Collins could provide information to help their investigation…

It’s been reported Collins and Mills were at one time romantically involved, but police could not confirm that information.

Multiple media outlets are reporting LSU defensive tackle Mickey Johnson, who didn’t play much in Baton Rouge, is transferring to Louisiana Tech and he will be able to play for the Bulldogs next season as he’s set to graduate in August. Johnson is a four-star recruit out of St. Paul’s High School in Covington.

LSU pitchers Alex Lange and Jesse Stallings have been named to the national pitcher of the year watch list. Lange is 7-0 with a 1.86 ERA this season. Stallings leads the SEC with 11 saves and has 1-1 record with a 2.10 ERA. The Tigers left today for a three game series against Mississippi State, which starts tomorrow night.

Baton Rouge police want to talk with with former LSU offensive lineman La’el Collins about the shooting death of a pregnant woman. 29-year-old Brittney Mills was gunned down at her home last Friday and it’s been reported Collins was once romantically involved with Mills, who was eight months pregnant. Baton Rouge Police Corporal Don Coppola says they believe Collins may know why someone would want to shoot her…

Collins is in Chicago, where he’s expected to be selected in the NFL’s first round on Thursday night.

Also last night, UNO crushed Jackson State 14 to 3, and Tulane edged Southeastern Louisiana five to four in ten innings. Tyler Wilson hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the tenth inning for the walk off win for the Green Wave.

In college baseball yesterday, the number one ranked LSU Tigers put together a couple of three run innings to take a 6-1 win over Alcorn State at Alex Box Stadium. Seven LSU pitchers combined to strike out twelve Braves and hold them to only two hits on the night. The Tigers travel to Starkville, Mississippi to face Mississippi State in a three-game Southeastern Conference series beginning tomorrow. First pitch Thursday is at 6:30PM and it will be televised on ESPNU.

Senior Tyler Wilson hit a two strike, two out, walk off home run in the bottom of the tenth inning to lift Tulane to a 5-4 win over Southeastern Louisiana last night at Turchin Stadium. The win gives the Green Wave their first series sweep of the Lions since 2012. Tulane also defeated Southeastern back in February and March. The Green Wave improves to 28-16 and will host Houston in a three game series beginning Friday. Southeastern looks to bounce back when they host Lamar for a three game Southland Conference series this weekend.

Three game scheduled for last night were postponed. Louisiana Tech versus Stephen F. Austin and McNeese State at Southern will be played today. UL-Lafayette at Nicholls State has been pushed back to May 12th.

The coach says the Colfax native has great stuff, but has trouble locating his fastball at times…

In the latest ESPN-dot-com, USA Softball Collegiate Top 25, LSU has fallen two spots to number five, while U-L Lafayette has fallen two spots from number nine to eleven. LSU avoided a sweep at Missouri last night by beating Missouri nine to nothing. The win ended a three-game losing streak, the longest of the season for LSU.

Tonight, Louisiana Tech’s softball team hosts Stephen F Austin. It’s the final home game of the year for the Lady Techsters.

The Pelicans season is over after getting swept by Golden State in their first round playoff series. Even though New Orleans didn’t win a game in the postseason, Anthony Davis showed he’s one of the top players in the league. Davis had 36 points and 11 rebounds in the series finale…

ESPN reports the Pelicans are offering Davis a max deal which would be a five-year, 140-million dollar contract. Head coach Monty Williams is scheduled to meet with the media tomorrow morning.

A nasty thunderstorm moved through Baton Rouge today, knocking down the left field and right field foul poles. But they will be able to play their regularly scheduled game against Alcorn State tomorrow. LSU is ranked number one in the five polls that were released this morning. It marks the seventh week this season the Tigers are number one in at least one poll.

The Ragin Cajuns are one of the hottest teams in Louisiana. UL Lafayette won its sixth straight yesterday beating UT-Arlington four to one. The Cajuns are now just a half game back of Georgia State for first place in the Sun Belt. U-L-L junior outfielder Kyle Clement has been named a Louisville Slugger Player of the Week. Clement was 10-for-21 at the plate with three home runs and nine RBIs.

And Southeastern Louisiana’s Jacob Seward has been named Southland Hitter of the Week. Seward was 11-for-16 at the plate last week, including a five-for-five performance against Houston Baptist. He has a 22-game hitting streak, which ties a school record.

LSU remains ranked number one in several polls that came out today after taking two out of three from Texas A-and-M. In the Pefect Game Top 25 poll, LSU is number one followed by the Aggies who are ranked second. Texas A-and-M was able to avoid a sweep by beating LSU six to two. The Tigers are back in action on Tuesday night against Alcorn State.

The Ragin Cajuns have won six in a row after sweeping UT-Arlington. Yesterday, U-L Lafayette beat the Mavericks four to one. Freshman Wyatt Marks allowed just one run in seven innings. Kyle Clement belted his sixth home run of the year.

ULM beat Georgia Southern 11 to 1 on Sunday. Justin Stawychny drove in five runs. Louisiana Tech was also a winner yesterday as they defeated FIU 1-0. Chandler Hall drove in the lone run, with an RBI single in the 7th.

Southeastern Louisiana swept Houston Baptist this past weekend and is still in first place in the Southland.

ESPN is reporting the Pelicans have made a max offer to All-Star Anthony Davis that would pay him a total of 140-million dollars over five years. Davis still has one-year left on his rookie contract. Head Coacn Monty Williams believes Davis’ first experience in the playoffs will only fuel him to become a better player…

Justin Rose won the Zurich Classic on Sunday at the TPC Louisiana in suburban New Orleans. Rose finished at 22-under for the tournment, one shot ahead of Cameron Tringale. Rose birdied 17 and 18 for his seventh PGA Tour Victory.

It’s a sad day at Captain Shreve high school today. The Gators head football coach, Richard Lary, passed away from a heart attack over the weekend. Lary had been the Captain Shreve head football coach since 2011, he led the Gators to the playoffs this past season. He was only 49-years-old.

Southeastern Louisiana swept their series against Houston Baptist.  Northwestern State won two of three against Texas A&M – Corpus Christi.  And the UNO lost all three games this weekend to Central Arkansas.  Southeastern remains atop the Southland standings with Northwestern a close second.

In the Sun Belt, ULM dropped two of three against Georgia Southern and UL-Lafayette swept Texas – Arlington at Tigue Moore Field.  The Ragin Cajuns have now won six games in a row.

Tulane sweeps Cincinnati after defeating the Bearcats yesterday 9-5.  This is the Green Wave’s first road sweep since 2008.  Yesterday’s win was Tulane Baseball’s 1800 victory in school history.

A big seventh inning propelled the LSU Tigers to a second straight win over Texas A-and-M last night. The Bayou Bengals scored four runs in that inning to help them beat the Aggies nine to six. The big hit was this two run double by shortstop Alex Bregman. Jim Hawthorne of the LSU Sports Radio Network has the call….

The Tigers will go for the three-game sweep of A-and-M at one o’ clock this afternoon.

In the Sun Belt…U-L Lafayette blanked Texas-Arlington five to nothing yesterday. Kyle Clement had three RBIs, including a two run homer in the third. Gunner Leger and Will Bacon combined on a seven hit shutout. And Georgia Southern doubled up ULM four to two.

Louisiana Tech and FIU were rained out last night.

Southeastern Louisiana is still in first place in the Southland after sweeping a doubleheader from Houston Baptist yesterday. The Lions won game one three to two, and the nightcap six to one at Husky Field. S-L-U has won seven straight conference games and they are 16-and-4 in the league.

Northwestern State is trying to keep up with the Lions. The Demons defeated Texas A-and-M Corpus Christi four to three yesterday to improve to 15-and-6 in the league. Adam Oller tossed his fourth complete game and CJ Webster drove in the winning run with a sacrifice fly in the ninth inning.

McNeese State thumped Nicholls State nine to one. Kaleb Fontenot threw eight innings for his sixth win of the season.

Because of the threat of severe storms, they could not complete the second round of the Zurich Classic of New Orleans yesterday. As it stands now, former Georgia Bulldog Hudson Swafford is the leader at 11-under par.

And tonight’s game four of the playoff series between Golden State and the Pelicans. New Orleans will look to avoid elimination. Tip-off is at seven P-M.
