Former LSU quarterback Bert Jones is on the ballot to be inducted into the 2016 College Football Hall of Fame. Jones led the SEC in passing as a junior and as a senior he helped the Tigers win the Southeastern Conference title in 1970. Former Louisiana Tech football coach and athletic director Maxie Lambright is also on the ballot. Lambright coached the Bulldogs from 167-78, leading Tech to three consecutive Division Two national titles.

The Super Regional Series between LSU and U-L Lafayette will begin on Saturday night at 7 PM. Game two will be played on Sunday at either five or six and if a third game is necessary, it would be played sometime on Monday. The NCAA announces the Super Regional Series between LSU and U-L Lafayette will begin at seven PM on Saturday night. ESPN Two will televise the game. Game two will be played Sunday night at either five or six PM. And if Game three is necessary, a game time will be announced at a later time.

The Ragin Cajuns head into the weekend as underdogs, but UL Lafayette won two games in the Houston Regional by scoring multiple runs in the ninth inning to win. The voice of Ragin Cajuns, Jay Walker, says this team has found ways to get it done…

Walker says the Cajuns will bring a young team to Baton Rouge, their top three starting pitchers are freshmen and so is their closer.

The Saints have reportedly signed defensive end Cam Jordan to a five-year, 60-million dollar contract. 33-million dollars are guaranteed. Jordan had seven and a half sacks last season and has 29 for his career.

Today is day two of the mental competency hearing involving Saints and Pelicans owner Tom Benson. Benson has been in the courtroom both days and told reporters heading into the courtroom yesterday that he feels good.

The Pelicans have reportedly hired defensive specialist Darren Erman as an assistant coach. Erman spent this past season on the Boston Celtics coaching staff. The Pels are also reportedly interested in adding Robert Pack to the staff as well.

Hammond is once again the host site for the girls basketball state championships. The Louisiana High School Athletic Association accepted their bid over Lake Charles. Lake Charles will once again host the boys state basketball championships and Sulphur will host the baseball championships for another two years.

Louisiana Tech will have at least seven football games broadcast on national television this fall. Fox Sports One will televise the games against Western Kentucky and Rice. Five other matchups will be televised on the Fox Family of Networks throughout the season. Tech’s home conference opener against Florida International on September 26 will be televised on Fox College Sports.

The 40th playing of the Independence Bowl has been scheduled for Saturday December 26th at 4:45 PM. The game will be televised this year on one of the ESPN Networks. The Indy Bowl is still trying to nail down a title sponsor for the game, after Duck Commander ended its deal with the bowl game.

In Major League Baseball, Atlanta first baseman Freddie Freeman was three-for-five at the plate with a two-run home run as the Braves defeated Arizona last night 8-1. Atlanta currently sits two-and-a-half games out of first place in the National League East.

The Astros scored for runs in the bottom of the seventh and then held on to take a 5-2 win over Baltimore in Houston.

The LSU Baseball team looks to punch a ticket to the super regionals this afternoon when they battle UNC-Wilmington in the Baton Rouge Regional Finals. The two teams were scheduled to play last night after the Seahawks eliminated Tulane. But the NCAA decided to postpone the game until today, because of the anticipation of more rain in Baton Rouge. LSU athletic director Joe Alleva called it a “ridiculous decision.” Alleva says since LSU is in the winner’s bracket, they should have a compeitive advantage, but that competitive advantage has been lost, since UNCW didn’t have to play two games yesterday…

Anthony Davis is coming off a season where he averaged 24 points and shot 54-percent from the field. The NCAA made the decision to delay the championship round of the regional last night. LSU is one win away from advancing to the Super Regional round of the NCAA Baseball Tournament.

UL-Lafayette is in the final round of the Houston Regional. The Cajuns are one win away from the championship. They’ll face Rice at 1PM this afternoon. The winner of the Houston Regional will face the winner of the Baton Rouge Regional this weekend.

It was a slow start by the LSU baseball team last night, but they eventually got it going and defeated Lehigh 10 to 3. Both teams had to wait out a two-hour-17-minute rain delay after the top of the 1st inning. and Lehigh jumped out to a two to nothing lead. LSU tied it in the bottom of the 4th and then took control of the game with a three-run sixth inning. Chris Sciambra had a big pinch-hit RBI double in that inning…

The Tigers will play UNC Wilmington tonight at 8 PM. The Seahawks scored seven runs in the fourth inning to defeated Tulane ten to one last night. The Green Wave will try to keep their season alive today at 3 PM against Lehigh.

What a come from behind victory for the Ragin Cajuns yesterday in the Houston Regional as they defeated Rice seven to six. U-L Lafayette scored five runs in the 9th inning to shock the Owls. The bottom of the batting order was huge for the Cajuns as the six, seven, eight and nine hitters were a combined five for 12 with four RBIs. All of the RBIs coming in that ninth inning. The bottom of the order is stacked with experience, three seniors and a junior. Coach Tony Robichaux says he did that for a reason…

The LSU softball team lost four to nothing to Florida last night in the Women’s College World Series last night. The Tigers will play an elimination game tonight at 8:30 against either Alabama or Oregon.

They are in a weather delay at Alex Box Stadium as the Fighting Tigers host Lehigh in Game 1 of the Baton Rouge Regional. They played the top of the first as Alden Cartwright retired the side in order and then a heavy rainfall came, followed by lightning. LSU officials hope to resume action at 5:25.

The weather is better in Houston, where the Ragin Cajuns are taking on Rice. UL Lafayette fell behind three to nothing, but the Cajuns battled back to make it a one-run game. Joe Robbins and Greg Davis each had RBIs. But Houston added a run in the 7th and two more in the 8th inning to make 6-2, heading into the 9th.

In other action today….College of Charleston beat Auburn seven to six in the Tallahasse Regional, while Arkansas held on to beat Oral Roberts eight to six in the Stillwater Regional.

Tonight in the Women’s College World Series. LSU faces Florida in a winner’s bracket game. The Tigers took two of three from the Gators earlier this season. First pitch is at 6 PM.

The eighth ranked LSU softball team got off to a good start at the Women’s College World Series as the Tigers defeated Auburn six to one. Bianka Bell and Kellsi Kloss each hit home runs, while Emily Griggs had three hits for LSU. As a team, the Tigers had ten hits on the day, which was plenty enough offense for starting pitcher Carley Hoover. The Tigers will play in a winner’s bracket game tonight at six against defending national champion, Florida. You can watch the game live on ESPN2.

UL Lafayette will take on Rice at 2:30 this afternoon in the opening contest of the Houston Regional. Coach Tony Robichaux says right hander Wyatt Marks will start on the hill. LSU football’s SEC home opener against Auburn will not be a night game. CBS will televise the game on September 19th, which means a 2:30 kick-off in what could be a very hot Death Valley. And it looks like the regular season finale against Texas A-and-M will be played on a Saturday. That’s because CBS has already picked Arkansas-versus-Missouri for that Friday after Thanksgiving.
