Alex Lange has been named the starter in the Game One of the Super Regional Series.

The LSU men’s golf team is back in Baton Rouge today after winning the program’s first national title in 60 years. The Tigers defeated USC in match-play to claim the championship trophy. Ben Taylor’s nine-foot par putt on 18 wrapped up LSU’s first men’s golf championship since 1955.

According to the Baton Rouge Advocate, Charles Hanagriff, Patrick Wright, Lyn Rollins, Pelicans announcer Sean Kelley and the voice of Northwestern State, Patrick Netherton, are among the finalists to replace Jim Hawthorne as LSU’s play-by-play man. The report also says there are some national candidates as well.

The R-and-L Carriers New Orleans Bowl is returning to a primetime kickoff. The game this year will be played on Saturday, December 19th at 8 PM in the Mercedes-Benz Superdome. Last year’s game, which featured the Ragin Cajuns for a third consecutive year, kicked-off at 10 A-M.

A four-star recruit from Destrehan High School has given his verbal pledge to play at LSU. Glen Logan is a six-foot-four, 300-pound defensive tackle, who also had scholarship offers from several SEC schools. Logan helped Destrehan reach the Class 5A championship game a year ago.

Former LSU Tiger Trindon Holliday has signed with the Oakland Raiders. Holliday played for three different teams in 2014, before he was released by San Francisco 49ers.

LSU’s Alex Lange, who was named Freshman Pitcher of the Year by Collegiate Baseball, will be the Tigers starting pitcher in Game One of the Super Regional Series against the Ragin Cajuns. Lange was oustanding in the regionals last weekend, throwing a complete game shutout and striking out 12. Lange knows the excitement level on Saturday will be through the roof….

The LSU men’s golf team won its fifth national championship and first in 60 years as the Tigers defeated U-S-C 4-to-1 in the match-play final in Bradenton. Florida. LSU’s previous golf championships happened in 1940, ’42, ’47, and ’55.

Four-star defensive tackle Glen Logan from Destrehan High School has given a verbal commitment to sign with the LSU Tigers following his senior season. Logan also received scholarship offers from Alabama and Arkansas. Logan is six-foot-four, 300 pounds and is LSU’s 11th commitment in the class of 2016.

It looks like former Pelicans head coach Monty Williams has landed a new job. It’s being reported that Williams has been hired to be the top assistant for new Oklahoma City head coach Billy Donovan. Meanwhile, the Pels have reportedly hired Darren Erman as the team’s associate head coach in charge of defense and New Orleans native Robert Pack as the backcourt specialist. Erman served as an assistant with the Celtics last season and Pack was with the Thunder.

The Girls Top 28 state basketball tournament is headed back to Hammond. That’s according to the result of a vote by the LHSAA Executive Committee, which also awarded the boys state basketball tournament to Lake Charles for two more years. Sulphur will continue to host the baseball tournament for another two seasons.

LSU Junior Shortstop Alex Bregman has been named one of four finalists for the 2015 Golden Spikes Award. The award is presented annually to the nation’s top amateur baseball player. The other finalists are Andrew Benintendi of Arkansas and Vanderbilt’s Carson Fulmer and Dansby Swanson. Fans can cast their vote at GoldenSpikesAward-dot-com through June 12th and the winner will be announced on the 23rd.

Defensive end Cam Jordan has signed a contract extension that will keep him with the Saints through the 2020 season. The NCAA announces the Super Regional Series between LSU and U-L Lafayette will begin at seven PM on Saturday night. ESPN Two will televise the game. Game two will be played Sunday night at either five or six PM. And if Game three is necessary, a game time will be announced at a later time.

The Ragin Cajuns head into the weekend as underdogs, but UL Lafayette won two games in the Houston Regional by scoring multiple runs in the ninth inning to win. The voice of Ragin Cajuns, Jay Walker, says this team has found ways to get it done…

Walker says the Cajuns will bring a young team to Baton Rouge, their top three starting pitchers are freshmen and so is their closer.

The Saints have reportedly signed defensive end Cam Jordan to a five-year, 60-million dollar contract. 33-million dollars are guaranteed. Jordan had seven and a half sacks last season and has 29 for his career.

Today is day two of the mental competency hearing involving Saints and Pelicans owner Tom Benson. Benson has been in the courtroom both days and told reporters heading into the courtroom yesterday that he feels good.

The Pelicans have reportedly hired defensive specialist Darren Erman as an assistant coach. Erman spent this past season on the Boston Celtics coaching staff. The Pels are also reportedly interested in adding Robert Pack to the staff as well.

Hammond is once again the host site for the girls basketball state championships. The Louisiana High School Athletic Association accepted their bid over Lake Charles. Lake Charles will once again host the boys state basketball championships and Sulphur will host the baseball championships for another two years.

Louisiana Tech will have at least seven football games broadcast on national television this fall. Fox Sports One will televise the games against Western Kentucky and Rice. Five other matchups will be televised on the Fox Family of Networks throughout the season. Tech’s home conference opener against Florida International on September 26 will be televised on Fox College Sports.

The 40th playing of the Independence Bowl has been scheduled for Saturday December 26th at 4:45 PM. The game will be televised this year on one of the ESPN Networks. The Indy Bowl is still trying to nail down a title sponsor for the game, after Duck Commander ended its deal with the bowl game.

In Major League Baseball, Atlanta first baseman Freddie Freeman was three-for-five at the plate with a two-run home run as the Braves defeated Arizona last night 8-1. Atlanta currently sits two-and-a-half games out of first place in the National League East.

The Astros scored for runs in the bottom of the seventh and then held on to take a 5-2 win over Baltimore in Houston.

The two teams were scheduled to play last night after the Seahawks eliminated Tulane. But the NCAA decided to postpone the game until today, because of the anticipation of more rain in Baton Rouge. LSU athletic director Joe Alleva called it a “ridiculous decision.” Alleva says since LSU is in the winner’s bracket, they should have a compeitive advantage, but that competitive advantage has been lost, since UNCW didn’t have to play two games yesterday…

New Pelicans head coach Alvin Gentry will have the opportunity to coach one of the best young players in the NBA. Anthony Davis is coming off a season where he averaged 24 points and shot 54-percent from the field.
