Last year’s number one MLB draft pick and former LSU pitching star Paul Skenes has been called up to the big leagues by the Pittsburgh Pirates. Skenes will face the Chicago Cubs after being one of the most dominant pitchers in Triple A baseball this season posting a 0.99 ERA and struck out 45 batters in 27 and a third innings.

LSU baseball is not projected to make the NCAA tournament after the initial D-1 Baseball and Baseball America projections. The Tigers need to win four of their next six games in order to have a good chance at making the NCAA tournament and LSU will travel to face Alabama this weekend.

The two projections do have UL-Lafayette and Louisiana Tech making the tournament with the Ragin Cajuns as a two seed in College Station and the Bulldogs as a three seed in the Starkville Regional.

And ULM was able to defeat Stephen F. Austin yesterday 11 to 6 after scoring 10 unanswered runs. The Warhawks tied the game in the fifth inning and then scored their remaining 5 runs in the sixth inning to go on and win 11 to 6.

The New Orleans Saints have cut former Texas A&M, Minnesota Vikings, and Cleveland Browns quarterback Kellen Mond yesterday. Their quarterback room was crowded after the addition of South Carolina quarterback Spencer Rattler through the draft and Saints solution was to cut Mond. The Saints quarterback room will now include starting quarterback Derek Carr, second year quarterback Jake Haener, NFL veteran Nathan Peterman, and Rattler.

ULM softball will try to keep their historic momentum going into the SunBelt softball tournament when the Warhawks take on the South Alabama Jaguars at 4 pm today. The Warhawks secured the number 6 overall seed after winning 12 games in conference play and finishing the season with a 31 and 23 record. The LA Tech Bulldogs will face the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers after defeating UTEP 2 to nothing yesterday. The Bulldogs took two out of three games when the teams met in the regular season.

And in the Non-select Division I baseball playoffs, third seeded Sam Houston will take on second seeded West Monroe at 5:30 today and thirteenth ranked Benton will take on first seed Barbe at 5:30.

18th ranked UL-Lafayette baseball will take on the second best team in the SunBelt when the Ragin Cajuns take on Troy in a big SunBelt road series. Sloppy play on the road caused the Cajuns to lose a major road series this season when they traveled to Coastal Carolina and Ragin Cajuns Head Coach Matt Deggs says that his team can’t give up any “freebies” to Troy if they want to take this key series.

The Cajuns and Trojans will face off Friday with first pitch at 6pm and the game will be broadcast on ESPN+.

LSU pitcher Nate Ackenhausen was reported as questionable for this weekend’s series against Texas A&M after LSU Head Coach Jay Johnson announced that Ackenhausen suffered a hamstring injury.

The Louisiana Tech Bulldogs are on a 6 game winning streak dating back to their series clinching win over Dallas Baptist University on April 21st. Bulldogs Head Coach Lane Burroughs says that he is proud of how his team has performed this season and that LA Tech has put themselves in a really good position to make a run in the postseason.

The Bulldogs and Aggies face off on Friday with first pitch at 7 pm and the game will be broadcast on ESPN+.

And the New Orleans Saints have signed former Lions cornerback Will Harris to a one-year deal.

And LSU basketball has signed its third high school prospect to its 2024 to 2025 class with guard Vyctorious Miller signing his national letter of intent today. Miller is ESPN’s 42nd ranked prospect and is from Arizona Compass Prep.

LSU baseball found their offensive footing last night when the Tigers beat Grambling 26 to 2. The Tigers combined for 17 hits and 5 home runs in the game. White, Ruddell, Brown, Neal, and Travinski all homered in the game and the Tiger’s pitching staff only gave up two runs on the night. LSU Head Coach Jay Johnson hopes that the Tigers newfound success will translate into what he calls a ten game playoff stretch when the Tigers will face Texas A&M, Alabama, and Ole Miss to finish out the SEC regular season.

In other baseball news across the state, Louisiana Tech is now on a six game win streak after the Bulldogs defeated ULM yesterday 8 to 4. The win is the Bulldogs third straight over the Warhawks and the Bulldogs have won 8 out of the last 10 games between the two schools.

The Pelicans won 49 games in the regular season, but failed to win a single game in the Western Conference playoffs. Pelicans star power forward Zion Williamson was not available for the Pelicans playoff series against the Oklahoma City Thunder, but he said that a key factor in his improvement this season was having fun on the court.

Williamson played in a career-high 70 games this season and led the Pels in scoring with an average of 23 points per game.

And LSU basketball lands Richmond graduate guard Dji Bailey. Bailey won the Atlantic 10 Conference’s Chris Daniels Award which is given to the conference’s Most Improved Player. During his four years at Richmond, Bailey averaged 10.2 points, 4.4 rebounds, 2.2 assists, and 1.7 steals per game. Bailey will join Cam Carter from Kansas State and Jordan Sears from UT Martin in the LSU 2024 to 2025 transfer class.

After being swept by the Oklahoma City Thunder in the first round, Pelicans executive president of basketball operations David Griffin says that there are still positive takeaways from this season like the play of Pelicans star Zion Williamson.

And LSU gymnastics star Haleigh Bryant is returning to LSU for a fifth season. Bryant led the Tigers to its first ever national championship last season, won the national all-around title, and owns the record for the most 10’s in LSU gymnastics history.

Last night’s first round of the NFL Draft saw three LSU Tigers go in the first round. LSU Quarterback and Heisman winner Jayden Daniels was selected with the second overall pick to the Washington Commanders and he says that he’s all in on bringing back a winning culture to the Commanders.

LSU Wide receiver Malik Nabers didn’t have to wait long after Daniels to hear his name called. The New York Giants selected Nabers with the 6th overall pick and LSU wide receiver Brian Thomas Junior was also selected in the first round of the draft by the Jacksonville Jaguars with the 23rd overall pick.

The Saints had only one pick in the first round last night and selected Oregon State Offensive Tackle Taliese Fuaga (Tall-ee-s-a Foo-ah-gah). The Saints needed an offensive tackle heading into the first round and selected Fuaga with the hopes that he can develop into a starter for this upcoming season. Fuaga did not give up a sack while playing at Oregon State.

LSU baseball will try to keep its momentum going this weekend when the Tigers take on Auburn in the Box. LSU took two out of three on the road at Missouri last weekend and LSU Head Coach Jay Johnson hopes that his team can do the same, if not better, against Auburn this weekend.

The first pitch of tonight’s game is scheduled for 6:30 pm

The Louisiana Tech Bulldogs are in second place in Conference USA as they head into their matchup against the Sam Houston State Bearkats. Louisiana Tech is 8 and 3 in conference play this season while Sam Houston State is only 7 and 8. UL-Lafayette will host Southern Miss this weekend. The Ragin Cajuns are 2 and 8 over the last ten games against Southern Miss, but they hope to turn the tide after going 15 and 3 in Sun Belt play so far this season. And ULM is also in action against Old Dominion this weekend. The Warhawks are 6 and 12 in Sun Belt play and the Monarchs recently dropped out of the top 25.

The Saints have the number 14 pick in the NFL draft tomorrow night and there are questions surrounding whether or not the Saints will trade up for the 27th consecutive season. Saints General Manager Mickey Loomis says the rumors surrounding a trade with Marshon Lattimore are just rumors and that he does not want to trade starters.

The NFL draft will begin tomorrow at 7 pm.

Former Saints running back Reggie Bush has his 2005 Heisman trophy back nearly 14 years after it was forfeited. Bush forfeited the award in 2010 after being accused of illegal financial benefits while playing for USC, but due to major NIL changes in college athletics the Heisman Trust reinstated Bush’s award.

And the Saints will look to replace veteran offensive lineman James Hurst after he retired today. Hurst started 51 games for the Saints over the last 4 years and rotated between left tackle and guard.

The Pelicans will take on the Oklahoma City Thunder tonight in game 2 of their NBA playoff series and Pelicans Power Forward Larry Nance feels that his team can beat the Thunder with more execution on the court.

The Saints have the number 14 pick in the NFL draft tomorrow night. According to Mike Triplett of New Orleans football, the Saints have traded up in 26 straight drafts. Saints General Manager Mickey Loomis says this is because every team is looking to improve their situation, whether it be moving up the draft board or sliding back

And Haliey Van Lith has not yet committed to TCU. The former LSU point guard said that she intends to sign with the Horned Frogs, but has not yet committed.

The New Orleans Pelicans will face the Los Angeles Lakers tonight in the first NBA postseason play-in game. The Pelicans ended the regular season in a 124 to 108 loss at home on Sunday to this same Lakers team, despite the return of Small Forward Brandon Ingram from a knee injury. Pelicans Head Coach Willie Green expects Ingram to play a major role in the playoffs.

The Pelicans will host the Lakers tonight with tip off at 6:30.

LSU’s Angel Reese was drafted by the Chicago Sky with the seventh overall pick in last night’s WNBA draft. As the WNBA season kicks off next month, Reese says that she can’t wait to be in Chicago.

The Chicago Sky will take on the Minnesota Lynx in their first preseason game on May 4th.

LSU baseball will try to bounce back from getting swept by Tennessee over the weekend when they face UNO tonight at 6:30 pm. The Privateers are hitting .298 as a team and post a 5.83 team ERA.

The UL-Lafayette Ragin Cajuns baseball team is now ranked 14th by D-1 baseball after sweeping Marshall over the weekend and increasing their SunBelt win streak to 14 games. UL-Lafayette head coach Matt Deggs says that his guys play the game the right way.

UL-Lafayette will take on Southeastern tonight at 6 pm.

LSU football will look to boost its defensive line through adding defensive tackles in the spring transfer portal that opened today. The Tigers also received a commitment from Alexandria Senior High running back J-T Lindsey.

And LSU softball will host UL-Lafayette in a battle of top 25 teams tonight with first pitch at 6 pm.

The LSU Tigers Spring Game saw the Tigers struggle defensively as receivers were left wide open. Head coach Brian Kelly says figuring out the starting cornerbacks and adding defensive tackles are top priorities in fixing the Tigers defensive problems.

LSU will open next season against USC on September 1st in Las Vegas.

The Eagles have signed Devonta Smith to a three-year, 75 million dollar contract extension. The Amite native and Heisman Trophy Winner at Alabama has 240 receptions in his three seasons in the NFL.

LSU baseball is now 3 and 12 in SEC play after getting swept at Tennessee over the weekend. The Tigers bullpen gave up six runs from the sixth to the eighth innings. Aiden Moffett suffered the loss and Gavin Guidry allowed a three run homer.

The UL-Lafayette baseball team have now won 14 Sun Belt games in a row after defeating Marshall yesterday 2 to 0. Ragin Cajun pitcher Carson Fluno pitched a no hitter into the 8th inning and UL-Lafayette infielder Duncan Pastore had three hits. D-1 Baseball has the Cajuns ranked 14 in the country.

The Pelicans finished in seventh place in the Western Conference after losing to the Lakers 124 to 108 last night. Lebron James had a triple-double. New Orleans will play the Lakers again tomorrow night in a play-in tournament game. Pelicans power forward Zion Williamson says that they need to regroup for the playoffs.

The LSU Tigers Spring Game had some offensive explosiveness to it. LSU Quarterback Garrett Nussmeier completed two long touchdown passes to Zavion Thomas as well as Kyren Lacy and Kaleb Jackson had a 32 yard touchdown run. LSU Head Coach Brian Kelly says that he likes how the offensive line took control of the line of scrimmage.

LSU will open next season against USC on September 1st in Las Vegas.

The Pelicans lost to the Lakers last night, 124 to 108. Zion Williamson had 12 points, 8 assists, and 8 rebounds on the night. They will play the Lakers again on Tuesday Night in the NBA play in tournament.

And the WNBA Draft is tonight and LSU’s Angel Reese is supposed to be a high first round pick.

Drake Anderson had a big night as the second baseman went 5 for 5 at the plate recording 4 RBIs for Nicholls.  Arizona defeated Louisiana Tech 5 to 2. Texas State defeated ULM 13 to 11. Southern swept Grambling over the weekend and Southeastern was swept by Lamar.

And in college softball news, LSU lost to Auburn yesterday 3 to 1 and UL-Lafayette lost to Texas state 5-0. LSU will host UL-Lafayette in a battle of top 25 teams tomorrow with first pitch at 6 pm.
