The LSU Alumni Association President is speaking out about a lawsuit filed on Friday where it is alleged he offered lifetime payoffs to an female employee with whom he reportedly having a sexual relationship. In a statement released today, Dr. Charlie Roberts said he was “blindsided” by the accusations, and responded that the charges of him trying to pay off Kay Heath – when she was let go – are false.

A Cameron Parish Jail inmate is back in custody after a massive overnight search following his escape last night. Sheriff Ron Johnson says 45 year-old James Lacombe had some outside help in getting out, but he also believes there was some human error on the prison end…:

LSU running back Leonard Fournette worked with the veterans during the morning practice today. Fournette had been practicing with his fellow freshmen in the afternoon. The first full squad practice is tomorrow.

Saints owner Tom Benson is back in New Orleans after his brief hospitalization yesterday, after experiencing breathing problems at the West Virginia training camp. The 87 year-old Benson arrived late yesterday and was in the office today, according to team spokesman Greg Bensel (BEN suhl). He says he is feeling fine.

A Denham Springs man has been sentenced to 25 years in prison after pleading no contest to sexual battery charges. Dwayne Miller was ordered to serve his sentence without benefit of parole, probation, or suspension of sentence. Authorities say Miller admitted to the New Years Eve 2012 crime while in custody.

This move seeks to prohibit BESE and the Department of Education from using any standardized tests designed through an association with Common Core. The injunction request was filed in state district court today.

After an investigation, the Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office has arrested a 25-year-old New Iberia man on charges of attempted first degree murder and home invasion. Arneze Jack was booked into the Iberia Parish Jail for the incident which occurred in New Iberia. No bond has been set at this time.

According to a new poll, US Representative Vance McAllister’s challengers are within single digits in the race for the 5th Congressional seat. The survey, conducted by the Glascock Group out of Pineville, shows McAllister at 27 percent, Monroe Mayor Jamie Mayo at 21 percent, and Republican Ralph Abraham at 18 percent. Mayo is the only announced Democrat in the race and ULM Political Science Professor Joshua Stockley says this poll shows Mayo has some work to do to make the runoff…

Tuesday Baton Rouge Mayor President Kip Holden criticized Governor Bobby Jindal for going to the Mexico border to discuss safety issues there. The Governors office issued a statement last night in response saying they believe the Mayor is wrong and that an unsecured border with Mexico does have an impact in Louisiana with the potential of gangs and drugs coming here. Jindal added it is shortsighted of Holden to say that illegal immigrants and an unsecured border do not have an impact on Louisiana.

Top officials with Cleco are expected to appear today at the Public Service Commission meeting to answer questions regarding a possible sale of the utility company. Commissioner Eric Skrmetta says they think there are some companies that believe Cleco is a powerful asset…
