President Donald Trump has declared the opioid crisis a public health emergency. He said Thursday he intends to file a lawsuit against the pain killer manufacturers, something Governor John Bel Edwards has already done. State Department of Health Chief of Staff Andrew Tuozzolo says Louisiana passed legislation this year targeting the opioid epidemic:

The CDC reports Louisiana had 478 opioid overdose deaths in 2014.
