An arrest has been made in the double homicide which occurred on the campus of Grambling State University this week. Authorities say Jaylin Wayne faces first degree murder charges. Earl Andrews and Monquiarious Caldwell, both 23, were killed in the courtyard of dorm rooms at GSU early Wednesday. Wayne, a freshman at the university reportedly surrendered to law enforcement after learning a warrant had been issued for his arrest. It’s homecoming week at Grambling, and students have decided to hold a peace walk today, instead of a pep rally.

President Donald Trump has declared the growing opioid epidemic in the US a public health emergency. The CDC reports Louisiana is one of 20 states with a significant increase in opioid deaths — 478 fatal drug overdoses in 2014. State Department of Health Chief of Staff Andrew Tuozzolo says parish coroners are working to identify the source of the problem…:

The Lafayette Fire Department says a 2-year-old died in a house fire Thursday. Firefighters say the flames raged for 30 minutes before coming under control, then the toddler was found during a search of the home. Investigators say the blaze originated in the living room, but the cause is still under investigation.
