Governor-elect John Bel Edwards has created a higher education transition team to make policy recommendations to improve Louisiana’s colleges and universities. Jeff Palermo reports…:

A longtime manager at a maritime skills development center was shot and killed by an employee in Kenner. Authorities say the suspect,50-year-old John Spears of Marrero, waited for police to arrive and arrest him. The murder happened at the Houston Marine in a strip mall at about 3:30 p.m. The victim, 49-year-old Anthony Tardo of Mandeville, worked for the business for 19 years.

 

A national credit reporting agency says Louisiana will face many challenges, as much of the Jindal Administration’s plan to solve the $487 million midyear shortfall has only temporary fixes. Fitch ratings says stop-gap measures were used that don’t address the state’s major budget problems. State Treasurer John Kennedy says this is a warning shot:
