At the Mercedes-Benz Superdome yesterday, four champions were crowned in high school football. In Division One,…Catholic upset Rummel 31-28. While in division two Parkview Baptist defeated St. Thomas More 24-21 as a 37-yard touchdown pass by Reggie Hayes was the game winner.

In Division Three…Notre Dame finished off an undefeated season by beating Riverside 13-3. It’s the fifth state title for the Pioneers and in Division one Southern Lab beat St. Mary’s 36-2.

Looking ahead to next week…In Class 5A…it will be Zachary versus John Ehret in the title. In Four-A…defending champion Neville will face Edna Karr, over in 3A….Lutcher will battle rival St. James. In two-A, Mangham will take on Kinder and in one-A…Haynesville will battle Kentwood.

 

Lebron James scored 37 points but the Pelicans outlasted the Cleveland Cavaliers 114-108 in overtime last night. Anthony Davis led the way for New Orleans as he scored 31 points and had 12 rebounds. Davis had six in O-T.

In college basketball…Louisiana Tech needed double overtime to beat Jackson State 95-88. Southern over Southeastern Louisiana 73-69.

In college football…Grambling State faces Alcorn State in the SWAC Championship at 3 PM. At Six o’ clock tonight, McNeese State will battle Sam Houston State. The Cowboys are undefeated on the year and own a victory over the Bearkats.

On Sunday, the Saints take on the undefeated Carolina Panthers and we’ll find out where LSU and Louisiana Tech will go bowling. The Tigers could go either to bowls Florida or Texas, while the Bulldogs could receive a bid to the New Orleans Bowl.
