Governor John Bel Edwards strongly denies his office was involved in a cover-up over the deadly 2019 arrest of Ronald Greene. Greene died after he was involved in a police chase that ended with troopers stunning, punching and dragging him. The incident happened in 2019 when Edwards was up for re-election.

There have been accusations the governor tried to keep the incident quiet, but Edwards says he never interfered with the investigation and provided evidence he did not intervene…

Edwards held the press conference one day after Republican House Speaker Clay Schexnayder said that the legislature should seek the truth on what the governor knew about Greene’s case. Edwards says an investigation by a GOP-led legislature would do no good…

Today is the first full day of the redistricting session and a proposal for a second minority-majority congressional district is expected to lead to contentious debate. Of the state’s six districts only one is majority Black. Baton Rouge Democratic Senator Cleo Fields says it’s time for another district because 33-percent of the state’s population is black.

But the big question is whether there is enough of a black population in a condensed area so that two majority-minority districts can be created.
