The State Fire Marshal’s Office is asking residents to reconsider the use of heat lamps to keep animals warm following several fires last week. One fire in Bossier Parish killed seven horses, and separate blazes in Houma and Livingston Parish each killed a dog.  State Fire Marshal Spokesperson Ashley Rodrigue says the fires could be due to the lamps being placed near flammable objects…

56-year old Bossier Parish Sheriff’s deputy Burt Wich is recovering after being allegedly shot multiple times by his estranged daughter, Callie Wich in Benton Monday night. Sheriff’s Office Spokesperson Bill Davis says Deputy Wich is in stable condition at Ochsner LSU Health Shreveport and was up walking around this morning after being shot multiple times.

A 56-year old Bossier Parish Sheriff’s deputy is recovering after being allegedly shot multiple times by his estranged daughter, 22-year-old Kalee Wich, Monday night. Sheriff’s Office Spokesperson Bill Davis says they were called to Burt Wich’s home in Benton around 5 pm.

Seven horses were killed in a Bossier Parish fire last week that authorities believe was started due to a heat lamp accident. The State Fire Marshal’s Office is asking residents to reconsider the use of heat lamps to keep your pets warm and State Fire Marshal Spokesperson Ashley Rodrigue says even outside, heating lamps can be hazardous, so try to bring your pets inside during cold weather if you can.

Rodrigue says there was also a fire involving a heating lamp in the Houma area that killed a dog and another one in Livingston Parish.

The LSU men’s basketball team will face the Georgia Bulldogs on the road tonight at 6 p.m.  The Tigers have won three-straight while being led by point guard Javonte Smart.  Coach Will Wade comments on Smart’s high level of play.

The ULM men’s basketball team improved to 7-16 after a 68-64 victory over Arkansas-Little Rock.

Ragin Cajun basketball coach Bob Marlin set the record for the most Sun Belt Conference victories after getting his 118th conference win as the Cajuns took down Texas-Arlington 76-74 last night.

Northwestern’s men’s basketball team got its sixth straight win as the Demons beat Houston Baptist 86-80.

The LSU baseball team got a thrilling come-from-behind victory over Louisiana Tech last night 16-7.  The Tigers scored 14 runs in the final three innings to erase a four run deficit. Junior Gavin Dugas contributed six RBI’s, including a grand slam in the sixth inning.   Freshman Javen Coleman earned the win as he struck out seven batters in just over three innings of work.  LSU improved to 2-1 with the win.

Tech will play ULL on the diamond tonight at 6.  The Ragin Cajuns are coming off a series victory over Tulane where they scored 18 runs in the last two games.  Cajuns coach Matt Deggs talks about his team’s play so far.

Baton Rouge native, 29-year-old Hayley Arceneaux is set to become the first cancer survivor to ever get launched into space. She’ll be the chief medical officer aboard Inpiration4, the first all-civilian mission. Arceneaux, a spokesperson for St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, calls it an inspirational moment for St. Jude’s kids.

Many Louisianans are tempted to cut back and uproot plants after winter storms last week damaged tender plants, but LSU Ag Center professor Dr. Heather Kirk-Ballard says try to hold off until the spring to remove that unsightly foliage.

Kirk-Ballard says we could still see another freeze so it’s best not to prune or uproot anything just yet because the damaged part of the plant can act as insulation.

A 22-year-old Benton woman faces an Attempted First Murder Charge in shooting of her father a Bossier Parish Sheriff’s Deputy. Authorities say Deputy Burt Wich was airlifted Monday evening to Ochsner LSU Health Shreveport after being shot multiple times at his residence in Benton. He is listed in stable condition. His daughter Kalee Wich is being held at the Bossier Maximum-Security Facility in Plain Dealing.

This morning lawmakers will meet to discuss the state of Louisiana’s insurance market. Matt Doyle has the story.

Jefferson Parish Sheriff Joe Lopinto it’s still unclear why 27-year-old Joshua Williams of New Orleans started a shootout at a Metairie gun shop that resulted in three deaths and two people injured. Lopinto says it also appears Williams was cooperating when a store employee told him to take his loaded pistol out of the gun range. But the sheriff says as Williams began walking towards the door he started shooting…

According to data analyst Jeff Asher, about half of Louisianians over the age of 70 have received at least one of their COVID-19 vaccine shots. Asher says that’s a big deal since 70-percent of the Louisiana residents who have died from COVID-1( are over the age of 70. Asher says over 10-percent of Louisiana’s population has received one shot.

Three of the state’s largest cities are under boil water advisories, Lake Charles, Alexandria and Shreveport. Shreveport Mayor Adrian Perkins says the city expects to have water service restored today, but more work needs to be done…

President Joe Biden has amended Louisiana’s disaster declaration for Hurricane Laura, which results in direct federal assistance increasing from 75-percent to 90-percent of the total eligible costs, except for assistance previously authorized at 100-percent.

Southeastern Louisiana won at the buzzer to clip Corpus Christi 78-75. Byron Smith hit a three-pointer with less than a second left to win the game.

A 29-year-old Baton Rouge woman has been chosen to be part of the first all civilian space flight. Later this year Hayley Arceneaux will be one of four people to board Space X’s Falcon nine rocket and orbit the earth for three days. Arceneaux is a physician’s assistant and will be the flight’s medical officer…
