The lawyer for a Bossier City businessman and a former police officer who allegedly killed, dismembered and disposed of co-worker Garrett Wilson, says his client is innocent. Wilson’s remains were found in a north Bossier Parish field. Defense attorney Randal Fish tells KTBS-TV that John Hardy uses a walker to get around and finds it hard to believe Hardy could do this in his ambulatory condition.

They will chase live chickens today in the southwest Louisiana town Iowa as residents there still celebrate Mardi Gras the traditional way. Former LSU star Kevin Faulk is reportedly the Tigers new running backs coach. Faulk will replace Tommie Robinson, who is taking the same job at Texas A-and-M. Faulk has been LSU’s director of player development. The Lafayette native is one of the greatest running backs in LSU history and is still the school’s all-time leading rusher.

Former LSU Q-B Joe Burrow had a little fun on Twitter after news broke that his hands measured just nine inches from the tip of the thumb to the tip of the pinkie finger. They are the smallest hands for a projected first-round quarterback since 2008. Burrow posted a tongue-in-cheek response on Twitter, saying he plans to retire because of his tiny hands and to keep him in his thoughts. Quarterbacks will work out at the combine Thursday.

The Saints have promoted defensive assistant Michael Hodges to linebackers coach. He’ll replace Mike Nolan who left to be the defensive coordinator at Dallas. And Saints safety Vonn Bell is mourning the loss of his brother who died in a car accident.

Pelicans rookie Zion Williamson will matchup with Lebron James for the first time in his NBA career tonight as New Orleans visits the Lakers. The Pels are 8-and-5 since Williamson began playing following knee surgery. New Orleans is just three games back of Memphis for the final playoff spot in the West, as the Grizzlies lost again last night, falling to the Clippers.

LSU Basketball Coach Will Wade is not happy his team will have a nine o’clock local time game in Gainesville on Wednesday night and then turn around have an 11 AM tip-off in the Maravich Center versus Texas A-and-M on Saturday. Wade says the Tigers are the only team in the league that’s had this short duration between games and it’s the second time this year.

ULM senior forward Tyree White has been named Sun Belt Player of the Week by College Sports Madness. He averaged 18 points and six rebounds a game as the Warhawks won two games last week.

In college baseball, Nicholls scored three runs in the ninth inning to beat McNeese four to three yesterday. Xane Washington had the walk-off hit.

A pregnant Baton Rouge mother expecting twins and her 7-year-old son are dead following a two-vehicle crash on I-10 near Belle Terre Road in St. John the Baptist Parish. State Trooper Monroe Dillon says 27-year-old Tyandra Lewis was eastbound on I-10 when for reasons under investigation, their Toyota Camry stopped in the left lane.

Lewis and her son sustained fatal injuries from the impact. The driver of the other vehicle was not injured.

Today is a big day of parades across south Louisiana and State Police is asking Carnival goers to be mindful of pickpocketers. Lt. Nick Manale says never pat your pocket to see if your wallet is there because that lets a thief know where you keep your money and credit cards….

One unique Mardi Gras celebration encourages its participants to catch a chicken. The Iowa Mardi Gras Run started in 1978 and the tradition is continuing today. Run captain Rodney Victorian says a parade rolls through town with floats, horses, and four-wheelers, looking for food contributions for a gumbo to be made at the end of the event.

Gumbo will be served to the riders from two to four PM at the Knights of Columbus Hall.

The votes are  in for the 5th Annual King Cake Snob Competition. This year’s competition saw nearly 2,500 cake reviews from more than 500 different cakes from 170 bakeries across the Bayou State. Andrew Alexander with King Cake Snob says last year’s overall winner Manny Randazzo fell short of defending its crown.

Since the contest began Alexander says they’ve seen bakeries not just concentrated in the New Orleans area be added to the list of consideration to the King Cake Snob competition.

Alexander says not only does the survey rate King Cakes, but they also ask participants to admit to particular behaviors during the carnival season, so they learn a bit about King Cake connoisseurs.

A pregnant Baton Rouge mother and her 7-year-old son are dead following a two-vehicle crash on I-10 near Belle Terre in St. John the Baptist Parish.  Trooper Monroe Dillon says the deceased were traveling eastbound on I-10 when for reasons under investigation, their Toyota Camry stopped in the left lane.

The Camry driver 27-year-old Tyandra Lewis was six-months pregnant with twins.  Her 7-year-old was riding in the back seat.  There were also two passengers, 43-year-old Clarence Muse of Baton Rouge and his 3-year-old son, that were airlifted to area hospitals.  Dillon says an accident like this initially leaves everyone with more questions than answers as the investigation continues.

The driver of the pickup truck, 39-year-old Willy Buchan of Tyler, Texas, was unharmed.  Seat belt usage is still pending, but Dillon says the message is clear that all occupants in a vehicle must be restrained, regardless of seating position.

Mardi Gras means big community celebrations, but law enforcement warns revelers to be aware of their surroundings in an effort to keep from becoming a victim of pickpocketing.  Trooper Nick Manale says make sure to keep your belongings minimal.

Over the course of the past weekend, troopers have made numerous arrests and recovered thousands of dollars in stolen items nabbed by pickpocket suspects.

Manale says always be mindful of where you place bags.

Manale says never pat your pocket to see if your wallet is there.   This is an indication that criminals look for to figure out the precise location of valuables.

Two riders in the Krewe of Thoth that were rushed to the hospital Sunday after falling from floats in two separate incidents were reportedly not wearing safety harnesses. One rider was leaning against the door at the rear of the float when it unexpectedly opened. The other rider was leaning over the side of the float handing out throws when he fell headfirst to the ground. The riders did not suffer serious injuries, and they were both listed in stable condition. Two people were killed in float related accidents last week.

The federal government has approved the state’s plan to spend one-point-two billion dollars in grant money that will be used to reduce the flood risk for several communities. The Pelicans are getting closer to catching Memphis for the final spot in the Western Conference. New Orleans won for the fifth time in its last six games last night as they defeated Golden State 115 to 101. The Pels are now 3.5 games back of the eighth-seeded Grizzlies. New Orleans hit 17 three-pointers, six of the made long balls were by Nicolo Melli, who is now shooting 40-percent from beyond the arc. Zion Williamson had 28 points in the win and the Pels will take on the Lakers in Los Angeles tomorrow.

The LHSAA released the boys basketball playoff pairings today. In Class Five-A, Natchitoches Central is the top seed. Peabody has the top seed in Four-A, and Bossier is the number one seed in Three-A.

A football player who recently signed to play at Southeastern Louisiana has been shot and killed in Baton Rouge, 17-year-old Terry Delaney was a standout player at Tara High Schol. No arrests have been made.

LSU baseball scored seven runs in the third inning on their way to 10-2 victory and a series win over Eastern Kentucky on Sunday. First baseman Cade Beloso had three hits and drove in three runs on the afternoon…

LSU got excellent starting pitching throughout the weekend as Cole Henry, Landon Marceaux and AJ Labas combined to throw 20 innings and compiled a 1.35 ERA.

A Breaux Bridge man faces animal cruelty charges, accused of tossing a bag full of lab puppies from a bridge into Bayou Portage in Henderson last week. St. Martin Parish Sheriff’s Office Major Ginny Higgins credits the public’s help for nabbing 55-year-old Gary James Goulas.

Cut 12 (10) “… cruelty to animals.”

The charges, one for each puppy, are felony offenses with a fine of $5,000 to $25,000 and possible prison time of 1 to 10 years for each count. Higgins says it is an act that is not taken lightly.

The puppies are in the care of Every Paw Animal Rescue in Evangeline Parish and Higgins says they appear to be doing well.

A nearby fisherman saw the suspect toss what appeared to be litter into the water and drive away. Upon retrieval of the bag, the fisherman discovered the pups inside.

The family of Joseph Sampson, who was tragically run over by a tandem float during the Endymion parade in New Orleans Saturday, has launched a GoFundMe account to help pay for funeral expenses. A description of the fundraiser says Sampson had no life insurance.  To date they have raised just over their goal three thousand dollars.
