The Louisiana Sheriff’s Association has endorsed Democratic gubernatorial candidate John Bel Edwards and the state’s Oil and Gas Political Action Committee is endorsing Republican David Vitter. Jeremy Alford of LA-Politics-dot-com says this kind of support is a big deal coming so soon after the primary election…

Alford says it’s not surprising that both candidates received major support this soon after the election because we’re on a very quick track to the runoff.

After a turnout of just 39-percent in the primary, Secretary of State Tom Schedler hopes for a bigger turn out for the November 21st runoff. Schedler says before the election, they predicted turnout anywhere from 45 to 50-percent and voters likely didn’t show up due to frustration with this election cycle or the major rainfall across the state.

WHO researchers also said that red meat probably caused cancer, too. Leigh Ann Burns, Registered Dietician with the LSU Health Sciences Center, says meats that are transformed to improve its flavor or preserve it are included in this category…

She says red meat includes beef, pork, lamb, goat, and other mammals humans consume. Burns suggests limiting your intake of these meats and increasing the amount of fruits and vegetables in your diet.

The WHO has classified processed meat as “carcinogenic to humans” and red meat as “probably carcinogenic”. Burns says this report is in no way suggesting you need to become a vegetarian…

Hype is already building for the November 7th top-10 matchup between LSU and Alabama at 7pm in Tuscaloosa. Because both teams are on a bye this weekend, there’s plenty of time for that excitement to keep growing. Brant Garrison is with Tuscaloosa Tourism and Sports. She says hotel bookings are racking up and will no doubt be completely sold out that weekend…:

(7-0) LSU is the only undefeated team in the SEC and they are one game ahead of (7-1) Alabama and one and a half games ahead of Ole Miss in the SEC West. Expectations are high as the Pelicans tip-off the regular season tonight against the defending NBA champs, the Golden State Warriors. New Orleans is considered by many as a team on the rise, but Jake Madison, who writes from the blog site, Bourbon Street Shots, says wins might be difficult early on, because the team is dealing with numerous injuries

Despite finishing second in the primary, Republican US Senator David Vitter says he will be elected as the state’s next governor on November 21st. Vitter believes voters will choose him over Democrat John Bel Edwards, because Edwards does not represent the values Louisiana is seeking…:

But Edwards says a vote for Vitter will continue to send Louisiana down the wrong path…:

Vitter got 23% of the vote in the primary and Edwards had 40%.

State Fire Marshal Butch Browning is lifting the statewide burn ban. Much of the state saw several inches of rain over the weekend. In Tangipahoa Parish, about 50 people had to be rescued from a trailer park because of flooding.

The Governor’s race is not the only statewide race heading to a runoff next month. Democrat Kip Holden narrowly came out on top in the Lt. Governor primary over Republican Billy Nungesser. But political analyst Bernie Pinsonat says signs point to Nungesser winning the runoff:

In the Attorney General’s race, incumbent Buddy Caldwell is in a tight contest with fellow Republican Jeff Landry.

A Farmerville woman has been arrested in the kidnapping of an eight-year-old boy from Lincoln Parish. The child was found safe Sunday night in Ouachita Parish, while 23-year-old Sommer Hattaway was arrested this morning. Ruston Police deputy chief Clint Williams says the boy’s mother reported her son was in her vehicle asleep at a motel when a woman she was in the room with stole it…

Williams says at this point they don’t think the woman knew the child was in the car.

The State Fire Marshal’s Office says due to the large amount of rain that hit Louisiana over the last several days, the statewide burn ban officially lifts at 6pm. State Climatologist Barry Keim says there are still some areas in north Louisiana that are slightly in drought, but with more wet weather on the horizon, that could possibly knock out Louisiana’s drought…:

Keim says the vast majority of Louisiana received 5 inches of rain or more and the wettest spot was recorded at LSU in Baton Rouge which got 10.5 inches of rain.

Deputies with the East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office this morning had to rescue 20 children from a school bus that stalled in a floodd roadway according to the department’s Facebook page. The bus got stuck on a flooded bridge in the northern part of the parish. LDWF said they had to rescue 23 people and a dog today from a flooded trailer park in Tangipahoa Parish.

The Saints are now another win away from getting back to the .500 mark as they have won two in a row, after beating Indianapolis 27-21 yesterday. Quarterback Drew Brees threw for 255 yards and one touchdown. Brees got some help from the running game. Mark Ingram rushed for 143 yards and a touchdown, Khiry Robinson ran the ball into the end zone twice and running back CJ Spiller caught six passes. Brees says it was a good day for that group….

Louisiana Tech cornerback Bryson Abraham was named Conference USA defensive player of the week. Abraham returned an interception for a touchdown in the Bulldogs 45-16 win over Middle Tennessee. Tech is at Rice for a game that will be played on Friday.

And Judy MacLeod has been named the new commissioner of Conference USA. She becomes the first female commissioner of a FBS conference.

The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries says agents rescued 23 people from a flooded trailer park in Tangipahoa Parish this morning. Our state got dumped with rain last night and some areas even recorded 10 inches according to forecasters. LDWF says the residents said the water was coming into trailers while they were sleeping this morning and agents then went to the scene with a boat rescued 23 people and a dog.

The Ruston Police Department says the woman who is accused of kidnapping a child in a stolen car last night has been arrested and the 8-year-old is now safe. Ruston PD Deputy Chief Clint Williams says the child’s mother reported 23-year-old Sommer Hattaway took her car while her son was in there sleeping. The child and Hattaway were located in Ouachita Parish and Williams says they are still working to determine why this happened…:

Hattaway is charged with theft of a motor vehicle and kidnapping.

Republican candidate for governor David Vitter has written a letter to State Police Col Mike Edmonson letting him know he won’t be needing personal security detail during the runoff. Vitter suggested that the four professionals instead be sent to other locations in the state. In the letter, the US Senator says if he’s elected governor the Protective Services Division will be reduced in size. He’s in the runoff with Democrat John Bel Edwards on November 21st.

State Climatologist Barry Keim says most of the state got 5 inches of rain or more and the wettest spot was in Baton Rouge at LSU which recorded 10.5 inches. He says there is some good news as 86 percent of Louisiana was in drought last week and now there could be a 1 to 2 category improvement following the rain…:

Vitter’s campaign announced Monday that he would not be taking state police personal security detail which is offered during the gubernatorial run-off. In a written statement, Vitter suggested to Col Mike Edmonson that the four professionals should instead be deployed to other important problem areas in Louisiana like Baton Rouge at the new bridge, the Atchafalaya Basin or and the French Quarter.

An arrest has been made in the bizarre case of the 8-year-old child who was abducted from Linicon Parish last night, causing Amber Alerts to be heard throughout the state. The Ruston Police Department says 23-year-old Sommer Hattaway is charged with kidnapping and theft of a vehicle. Deputy Chief Clint Williams says Dakota Johnson was found safe last night by the Ouachita Parish Sheriff’s Office, then the began to search for Hattaway:

He says the investigation into why she allegedly took the vehicle and the child is ongoing.
