The Louisiana Department of Education is releasing the report cards for high schools with only grades 9-12 for the 2014-2015 school year. They say schools made progress in every measure the state uses to assess high school quality including ACT, graduation rate and end of course tests.

State Police Col Mike Edmonson announces the Louisiana Office of Motor Vehicles collected just over $2 million dollars in car insurance lapse fines since they sent out 1.2 million warning letters to drivers. He said that as of Wednesday, the agency was able to clear the driving records of about 30,000 people since the notices went out October 13th…:

More and more parishes have decided to move trick or treat to tomorrow night instead of Halloween night on Saturday due to inclement weather conditions.

Shreveport Police have arrested two people they believe are responsible for a deadly shooting that killed one and injured two others. Cpl. Breck Scott says 29-year-old Elbert Fredieu (FREE-doo) and 24-year-old Scarlett Groce (gross), were taken into custody Wednesday. Scott says authorities found Fredieu working at Barksdale Air Force Base…:

A new report from the Louisiana Board of Regents shows that fewer college students are losing the TOPS scholarship than a decade ago. It says during the 2004-2005 school year, 41 percent of TOPS students lost their scholarships, but in the last school year, only 8 percent lost their award. TOPS students can only attend school tuition free if they enroll full time and maintain a C- average.

Meanwhile, Louisiana’s public colleges will ask the new governor and legislature for a significant increase in state funding. The Board of Regents currently receives 769-million in state dollars and its allocated to universities and colleges. Higher education commissioner Joe Rallo says the board is requesting an additional 636-million dollars next fiscal year to help meet the state’s workforce demands…:

The Shreveport Police Department has arrested two people in connection with the deadly shooting that claimed the life of one woman and injured two others including a teenager. They say 36-year-old Verdina Crichlow was killed as she and the two other victims were gunned down in an apartment. Cops arrested 29-year-old Elbert Fredieu in the shooting and 24-year-old Scarlett Groce as an accomplice.

The Iberville Parish Sheriff’s Office says a Plaquemine man, accused of selling methadone to a man who later died of an overdose, is now charged with second degree murder. They say investigators determined that 30-year-old Jeremy Doiron sold the drugs which caused Nicholas LeBlanc’s overdose death in August. Under Louisiana law, drug dealers can be charged with second degree murder in drug overdose deaths.

AARP of Louisiana has released a video featuring the two gubernatorial candidates discussing their views on policies which impact older voters. Spokesman Andrew Muhl says, on November 21st, voters will be setting the course for the future of our state, which faces major budgeting challenges especially around heath care financing. He hopes the video will help their members prepare…

Houma Police say a Wednesday afternoon shooting has left one dead and three others injured. They say a group of five men got into a fight and shots were fired. 18-year-old Corey Butler was shot multiple times and was pronounced dead at a local hospital. The three others shot fled the scene before authorities arrived. One man managed to escape uninjured. The incident remains under investigation.

Since they sent out 1.2 million warning letters to drivers, the Louisiana Office of Motor Vehicles collected just over $2 million dollars in car insurance lapse fines. Insurance Commissioner Jim Donelon criticized the debt collection notices saying a large portion of these notifications were sent to people who moved out of state or sold their cars and State Police Col Mike Edmonson says that’s why he’s extended OMV hours and is working with the public…

Trail Blazers guard CJ McCollum scored 37 points as Portland downed the Pelicans last night 112-94. The Trail Blazers scored 43 points in the first quarter and never looked back. Anthony Davis led the Pels with 25 points followed by Eric Gordon’s 20. The Pelicans will host the defending NBA champion Golden State Warriors Saturday night in the Smoothie King Center.

The Saints take a two-game winning streak into Sunday’s game against the New York Giants in the Mercedes-Benz Superdome. Quarterback Drew Brees says it’s been nice to see the team have some success on the field, but they can’t stop now…

LSU football coach Les Miles hopes some of his injured starters will return for the Alabama game on November 7th. Miles is hopeful defensive tackle Christian LaCouture, fullback JD Moore and cornerback TreDavious White will practice on Monday.

For the second time this week in Louisiana a student has been arrested amid allegations they made threatening statements about schools on social media. This time the St. Martin Parish Sheriff’s Office 17-year-old Jada Perron allegedly posted on Snapchat that a shooting would happen at Breaux Bridge High School today. An investigation was immediately launched she was charged with terrorzing.

The Shreveport Police Department is looking for a man who shot and killed a woman in an incident which also injured two other females including a 15-year-old. Cpl. Breck Scott says 36-year-old Verdina Crichlow was killed when a suspect opened fire on the women in an apartment then fled. HE says they’re talking with one of the victims to determine what they know about the suspect…:
