Martin says the nice thing about having speakers in to bring varying perspectives, is that they all come to the table with certain ideas about what might work in this situation. He says they all may even have completely opposing view points, but the goal is to frame reasonable discussions…:

LSU’s Leonard Fournette had another 200-yard plus performance on Saturday to help the Tigers beat Syracuse 34-24. The Heisman Trophy candidate rushed for 244 yards and two touchdowns against the Orange, becoming the first player in LSU school history to have consecutive 200-yard efforts. Fournette’s longest run came on a 62-yard touchdown run in the third quarter. He gives credit to his fullback…

Syracuse was keyed up to slow down Fournette, but he still put up big numbers. After the game, he gave credit to the Orange defense for making it a hard fought day….

Fournette was not the only college football running back from Louisiana. Bulldogs running back Kenneth Dixon had three touchdowns to help La Tech defeat FIU 27-17. Dixon says it was good to get a win after two straight losses…

Dixon now has 68 touchdowns, which is sixth most in college football history. He finished with 169 yards against FIU, his 20th career 100 yard rushing performance. But Dixon says he’s not focused on individual accomplishments…

The Saints are still winless after losing to Carolina 28-22. The Saints defense could not contain Panthers quarterback Cam Newton, who threw for 315 yards and two touchdowns. Newton also had a rushing touchdown. Saints quarterback Luke McCown says the players will not give up, despite an 0-and-3 start.

McCown played well for the injured Drew Brees as he threw for 310 passes. He was intercepted once and that came in the fourth quarter on a great play by Carolina defensive back Josh Norman. McCown says Brees was a big help on the sidelines.

A Thibodaux woman is in jail after she lied to Lafourche Parish Sheriff deputies about a murder inside her home and then driving off in a deputy’s patrol car. Thirty-four-year-old Loralyn Boudreaux stole the police car when deputies went inside her house to investigate a homicide that never occurred. Boudreaux was arrested a short time later at nearby residence.

Ohio Republican Congressman John Boehner has announced he will resign as Speaker of the House. Minden Representative John Fleming says Boehner made the right decision because his leadership wasn’t effective. He says they’ll be looking for specific traits in the next speaker.

The LaFourche Parish Sheriff’s office has arrested a woman after she allegedly falsely reported a murder and then stole a deputy’s patrol car. Deputies say 34-year-old Loralyn Boudreaux of Thibodaux told officers there was a homicide in a home and the suspect was still inside. When deputies went to investigate, Boudreaux drove off in the patrol car, but she was located about a mile and a half away and arrested on several charges.

Louisiana Tech is looking to snap a two-game losing streak this afternoon as they host F-I-U. The Bulldogs are averaging aboug 540 yards in total offense, which leads Conference USA. The Panthers, who are 2-and-1, lead the league in total defense, allowing 314 yards a game.

U-L Lafayette is home to take on Akron tonight. Brooks Haack is expected to make his third consecutive start at quarterback.

Elsewhere…Nicholls State is at Colorado. Northwestern State looks for its first win of the year as they host Central Arkansas. McNeese State matches up with Mississippi College. Grambling takes on Prairie View at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas and Southern faces on Georgia.

Bress sustained the injury in last week’s loss to Tampa Bay and Coach Sean Payton says it did not recover enough for him to play against the Panthers…

The latest campaign finance reports are out in the governor’s race and Republican David Vitter still has a considerable financial edge over his three opponents.
