Funeral arrangements for State Police Trooper Steven Vincent — who was killed in the line of duty Sunday, are set. Visitation will be begin 3pm Friday at Johnson’s Funeral Home in Lake Charles, and the funeral will take place at noon Saturday at Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Church. Vincent’s accused shooter, 54-year-old Kevin Daigle, is also facing homicide charges in the murder of his roommate, 54 year old Blake Brewer of Moss Bluff.

Army officials announce about 1,000 infantrymen from Fort Polk’s 3rd Brigade Combat Team will deploy to Afghanistan next month. Base spokesperson Kimberly Reischling (rye-shling) says the unit will be serving as advisors to the Afghans on how to preserve their capabilities..:

The Baton Rouge Police Department arrests a man they say tried to run over two officers during a traffic stop. They say 30-year-old St. Julian Baranco of Kenner fled from uniformed officers who were trying to pull him over, struck two police cruisers and attempted to hit two cops with his vehicle during the pursuit. Officers fired shots which hit Baranco. The man was released from a hospital and charged with 2 counts of attempted first degree murder of a police officer. A passenger in the vehicle remains at large.

The state Department of Health and Hospitals has reported three water systems in Louisiana this summer which tested positive for the brain eating amoeba. State Health Officer Dr. Jimmy Guidry says he’s not surprised by the results as the discoveries are not likely due to a sudden appearance of the amoeba in water systems…:

They say some strengthening is forecast during the next couple of days and on the track the center of Erika will approach the Leeward Islands Wednesday night and early Thursday. State Police say a Shreveport man is dead after a two vehicle crash on I-20 in Richland Parish. They say an 18-wheeler changed lanes in front of an SUV driven by 39-year-old Preston Jones. The rear of the trailer struck Jones’s vehicle causing it to spin out of control and flip over. Jones, who was not restrained, was ejected. He was transported to a local hosital where he later died. The investigation is ongoing.
