State Health Officer Dr. Jimmy Guidry says this is the third water system in the state to test positive for the amoeba this summer and one reason is because they are using a better test…

He says officials are taking steps to increase the chlorine level in the system so Houma area residents may notice a difference in the taste but the water is safe to drink.

Republican Jay Dardenne is taking advantage of technology in his race for Governor. The campaign says there’s an app for that — it’s called Jay Dardenne for Governor and it’s available on Apple and Android devices. Dardenne says the app awards points for actions supporters take to grow the campaign…:

A 16-year-old Plaquemine High School student was arrested after authorities say he brought a loaded gun to school. Iberville Parish Sheriff’s Office Major Ronnie Hebert believes the juvenile suspect brought the weapon to school with the intent of harming another student who was on the football team…:

The student is on house arrest and he can’t attend parish school for two years.

Tropical Storm Danny is now the 4th named storm of the season in the central Atlantic. State Climatologist Barry Keim says strong wind shear, which tends to break up storms in this El Nino season, does have areas of weakness around it..:

Since it is so far out there, Keim says it’s hard to predict now how or if it will impact the US or the Gulf Coast region.

Two different high school students at two different South Louisiana high schools have been arrested for bringing loaded guns to to their schools. A Plaquemine High School student was charged after information provided by a football player located his gun. The other was this morning at McKinley High in Baton Rouge where 17 year-old Owen Galo was arrested for a loaded 38 caliber gun in his book bag.

At Saints camp, recently signed defensive tackle Austin Brown went down with a knee injury at practice today and was carted off the field. In response to Brown’s injury, New Orleans has reportedly signed defensive tackle David Hunter, who is 25 years old and was last on an NFL roster in 2012. The Saints also begin two days of joint practices with the New England Patriots tomorrow.

The LSU men’s basketball team defeated the Queensland All-Stars in game three of their five game tour of Australia. Ben Simmons had 18 points and a key offensive put back in the final minute during the 91-88 victory. Antonio Blakeney had 22 points off the bench to lead the way, while Tim Quarterman had 20 points, 11 rebounds and five assists.

The Ragin Cajuns released their 2015-16 men’s basketball schedule and it features several difficult non-conference games. UL Lafayette will travel to UCLA, Miami of Florida, Alabama, Lousiana Tech and Pepperdine. The schedule also features a nice stretch of conference home games in late January as the Cajuns will host South Alabama, Troy, Texas State, UT Arklington and ULM from January 21st until February second.

And the Pelicans preseason schedule came out today. New Orleans will play just one game at the Smoothie King Center and that’s October 23rd against Miami.

A three vehicle crash this morning in East Feliciana Parish has resulted in one death and nine injuries on LA 67. State Police say 18 year-old Michael Davidson of Slaughter crossed the center line; sideswiping one vehicle then crashing head on into another. The victim of the head on crash- 51 year-old James McFadden III of Amite-was pronounced dead at the scene.

Tropical Depression Four has formed in the central Atlantic Ocean and is forecast to be the first hurricane of the 2015 season over the weekend. The National Hurricane Center says there is no immediate threat to land but it will likely continue to track west toward the Caribbean over the next week. They forecast the depression will strengthten today and become Tropical Storm Danny later tonight.

The Iberville Parish Sheriff’s Office says a 16-year-old Plaquemine High School student has been arrested for bringing a loaded gun to school. Major Ronnie Hebert says some football players told the coach that the student had the gun and commends them for coming forward…:

He says the student got into an altercation with the players the day before and they believe the juvenile suspect intended harm.

Tropical Depression 4 continues to churn in the central Atlantic and the National Hurricane Center says they expect it to become Hurricane Danny this weekend, but still far from land. They say gradual strengthening is forecast during the next couple of days, but it’s still too early to say if the system will threaten the US or the Gulf of Mexcio. We’ll be keeping an eye on the eventual track of TD number 4.

State Police is investigating a deadly morning crash in East Feliciana Parish near Clinton involving three vehicles. They say one person died in the wreck, a second succumbed to injuries at an area hospital and nine others were injured. Few other details about the crash are available at this time.

LSU Quarterback Anthony Jennings admits the time he missed during the summer with his teammates didn’t help his push to be the Tigers starting quarterback this season. Jennings missed a good portion of the offseason workouts, because he was arrested for allegedly breaking into another person’s apartment. Jennings says he spent the summer working out on his own….

Jennings currently trails Brandon Harris in the battle to be LSU’s starting quarterback.

The LSU men’s basketball team improved to two and one during their five-game tour of Australia. They defeated the Queensland All-Stars 91 to 88 in a game that was played this morning local time. Ben Simmons had 18 points and 12 rebounds. Antonio Blakeney had 22 points off the bench.

The Saints will begin two days of joint practices with the New England Patriots tomorrow, but Tom Brady will not be there. The Patriots quarterback will attend a deflategate hearing in New York. The practices with New England will take place in West Virginia and then both teams will face each other in a preseason game on Saturday night in the Mercedes-Benz Superdome.

The ULM football depth chart shows Garrett Smith as the Warhawks’ first string quarterback. Smith is a redshirt freshman from Spring Branch, Texas. In his senior season at Smithson Valley High School, he threw for nearly 21-hundred yards, 21 touchdowns and he was intercepted only three times.

The Ragin Cajuns football team will hold a scrimmage tonight. The battle for starting quarterback in Lafayette continues. Coach Mark Hudspeth says he’s looking for a QB that will not turn the ball over.

In Ruston, Louisiana Tech head coach Skip Holtz says Beau Fitte is having an unbelievable camp. The redshirt senior linebacker from Port Sulphur has played in 30 games during his career with the Bulldogs.

An area of low pressure in the Atlantic has formed and organized into Tropical Depression Four according to the National Hurricane Center. They say further strengthening and model tracks into the future are fuzzy at this time and it is too early to know if the system will threaten the US or Gulf of Mexico. The Hurricane Center does expect TD 4 to become Hurricane Danny this weekend but still farm from land.

Alcohol and Tobacco Control Commissioner Troy Hebert says his state issued vehicle was stolen from his Baton Rouge home and the thief attempted to set it on fire. Hebert says when the SUV was located, authorities found that the perpetrator stuck a rag in the gas tank….
