To protect and keep IVF clinics open in Louisiana, after what happened in Alabama, Baton Rouge Representative Paula Davis has presented the IVF Modernization Bill. Because IVF laws in Louisiana were written in 1986, she says the bill also updates previous regulations to the medical practice.

The Alabama Supreme Court deemed a frozen embryo is a child and if destroyed its wrongful death. To avoid criminal charges, IVF clinics closed. Davis’s bill will be heard on the House floor next week.

The LSU baseball team began a nine-game homestand last night by blanking Nicholls nine to nothing. Tommy White hit two home runs. Coach Jay Johnson says beating a Nicholls team with 27 wins should help improve their R-P-I as they try to build an NCAA Tournament resume.

Little Rock doubled up ULM four to two, Northwestern routed Grambling 16 to 8. The Demons scored eight runs in the fourth as Balin Valentine drove in five runs. S-L-U thumped Alcorn 15-to-3. McNeese rallied to beat Louisiana Christian six to four. The Cajuns host Houston Christian tonight.

In softball…25th ranked U-L Lafayette defeated sixth-ranked LSU nine to four. The Cajuns scored six times in the first inning. Alexa Langeliers and Brooke Ellestad homered for U-L Lafayette.

Game two of their Western Conference playoff series is tonight as the Pelicans face Oklahoma City down one game to one.

Some business groups fear the ruling may leave their proprietary information and intellectual property vulnerable, but the ruling does not ban agreements that would protect that information. Still business groups are expected to take legal action. Rosa says banning noncompete agreements would benefit clients who want to keep working with their choice of providers when they leave a company but there may need to be limits.

The Rule will go into effect 120 days after it’s published in the Federal Register and with a few exceptions for senior executives, even existing non-compete agreements will be thrown out. Rosa says this ruling not only empowers former employees but also customers who have relationships they want to keep…

The Saints have the 14th overall pick in the first round of Thursday night’s NFL draft. According to Mike Triplett of New Orleans-football…the Saints have traded up 26 straight times in the NFL draft. General Manager Mickey Loomis says every team is looking at their situation and trying to see if there’s a trade partner to move up in the draft or slide back…

The Saints have an obvious need to draft an offensive tackle, but they could also take a wide receiver. Loomis says the belief is that more offensive players will go in the first round than defensive players…

Legislation to remove nitrogen hypoxia as a means of execution passes in the Senate after two votes. Monroe Representative Katrina Jackson-Andrews asked for a suspension of the rules because she believed some members mistakenly voted against the bill and reminded members the bill does not repeal the death penalty, only the use of gas for execution.

LSU baseball team begins a nine-game homestand tonight as they host Nicholls. It’s expected that Thatcher Hurd will get another chance on the mound tonight. He’s lost his role as a weekend starter. Coach Jay Johnson says they are working with Hurd to get him back on track…

Johnson also says they will be tested by Nicholls tonight. The Colonels won the Southland Tournament last year and played in the NCAA Tournament. They are 27-14 this season and they just swept Houston Christian.

Also tonight…ULM hosts Little Rock. The Warhawks defeated the Trojans 11 to 1 on March 5th. Northwestern State hosts Grambling State at 6 PM. The Demons won the first matchup of the season.

Tonight in Lafayette…the seventh ranked LSU softball team visits the 19th ranked Cajuns. The Tigers defeated U-L Lafayette four to two last week. Since then the Cajuns have won four in a row, including a sweep over Southern Miss. Coach Gerry Glasco’s team is 33-15 and they are seven wins from a 25th consecutive 40-win season….

Close to 800 Fentanyl pills were seized after a traffic stop uncovered 273 counterfeit pressed pills suspected to contain the drug in St. Tammany Parish. Authorities had word that 24-year-old Derrick McDowell of Covington was regularly distributing narcotics, so after the discovery during the stop. Authorities executed a search warrant at McDowell’s Vintage Dr. residence where over 500 more pills were found along with other narcotics and paraphernalia. McDowell admitted to regularly distributing the pills.

54-year-old Glenn Sullivan of Springfield has been sentenced to 50 years and physical castration for raping and impregnating a 14-year-old. Livingston Parish Assistant DA Brad Cascio is pleased with the sentencing after Sullivan plead guilty to four counts of second-degree rape.
