The temperatures for this time of year have been unusually high and the National Weather Service says the warm air is bringing in a chance for severe weather mid-weekend. Jason Hansford with the National Weather Service in Shreveport says there’s a large disturbance moving across the southern plains on Sunday, which has opened up the Gulf of Mexico bringing these warm and humid conditions…:

Hansford says the system will clear out to start the work week.

The disposal process of the 16 million pounds of M6 propellant stored at Camp Minden in Webster Parish will begin in January. LSU-Shreveport Chemistry professor Brian Salvatore toured the construction site and says now they are waiting on the biggest contained burn chamber in the world. He says it will travel to Louisiana through the river system and be unloaded at the port of Nachitoches…:

Former Louisiana Tech president Dan Reneau has been named interim president of the University of Louisiana System. Reneau will serve as president until the board finds a permanent replacement for Sandra Woodley, who is resigning as president at the end of the year. Reneau served as president of Louisiana Tech for 26 years before retiring in 2013…:

Authorities say an elderly woman from Iberville Parish died this morning after the truck she was driving went into a bayou in Grosse Tete. They say 78-year-old Geneva Jenkins was removed from the submerged vehicle and taken to the hospital where she died. The cause of the crash is still being investigated.

Governor-elect John Bel Edwards officially resigned from the Louisiana House today. Edwards says it was an honor to serve District 72 in Amite but now it’s time to focus on the transition to governor. He’ll be sworn in January 11th.

Jason Hansford with the National Weather Service in Shreveport says it’s hard to believe we’re in December when you look at the forecast these days…:

Hansford says there is a marginal risk for severe weather moving across the state starting Saturday evening in some areas then into Sunday with showers and thunderstorms increasing. He says there’s a large disturbance moving across the southern plains on Sunday, which has opened up the Gulf of Mexico bringing these warm and humid conditions…:

Hansford says the system will clear out to start the work week and temperatures will cool off but only slightly. He says the squall line moving through the state Saturday evening into Sunday brings with it a damaging wind threat and the potential for isolated flash flooding…:

Crawfish season is underway and early reports say the mudbugs are much bigger than normal for this time of year . Scott Landry, spokesman for Seafood Palace in Lake Charles, believes there are a couple of reasons crawfish are so big so early in the season…

He says the weather and water conditions are making the early crawfish season so favorable. Landry says the crawfish, so far this season, are larger than they have been in several years. He says they look like an early spring crawfish…

He says if the weather keeps up, it will be a great crawfish season. Landry expects business to be good this season because people love a bigger sized crawfish…

Construction of the equipment needed to dispose of 16 million pounds of M6 propellant stored at Camp Minden in Webster Parish continues. The process to dispose of the explosives will begin next year. LSU-Shreveport Chemistry professor Brian Salvatore toured the construction site Thursday. Salvatore says about 90-percent of everything needed to conduct the contained burn are on site…

He says the contained burn chamber was loaded on a truck this week. Salvatore says the chamber will travel to Louisiana through the river system and be unloaded at the port of Nachitoches…

Governor-elect John Bel Edwards has officially resigned from Louisiana’s House of Representatives. The Amite Democrat has served House District 72 since 2007 and will be sworn in as governor on January 11th. Edwards says he’s resigning from the house in order to devote his full attention to the transition to the state’s highest office. He sent his resignation letter to House Speaker Chuck Kleckly today.

Former Cleveland Cavalier and Tulane power forward John “Hot Rod” Williams has died. Williams was arrested in the infamous Tulane points-shaving scandal in 1985. Williams passed away from cancer at his home near Sorrento at the age of 53.

In college basketball last night…ULM fell to Kent State 73-62, Nicholls State was crushed by San Diego State 84-47, and Southern defeated Wyoming 68-58.

Tonight in the Smoothie King Center, the Pelicans host the Washington Wizards. The Pels have yet to get on track this season as they are 5-16 and have lost 5 of their last 6. The Wizards have struggled as well, they’re 9-11 and have dropped 7 of their last 10. Tipoff is at 7PM.

Tulane will open the 2016 football season September 1st at Wake Forest. The game was announced when the Demon Deacons released their non-conference schedule Thursday. This will be the fourth consecutive year the Green Wave have started their season on a Thursday night.

State Representative Kenny Havard, whose district includes Angola, says if Angola warden Burl Cain was up to no good, then he made the right decision to resign. Darrel Vannoy will transition into the top position at Angola on an interim basis. Havard says if allegations Cain had private business dealings with inmates are true, then his resignation was the right call…:

An Avoyelles grand jury indicts two officers on murder charges in connection with a shooting that left 6-year-old Jeremy Mardis dead, and his father, Chris Few, injured in Marksville. Norris Greenhouse Jr. and Derrick Stafford are both now formally charged with second-degree murder and attempted second-degree murder in the November tragedy.

The two officers accused of fatally shooting a six-year-old child and wounding his father have been formally charged with murder. A grand jury indicted Norris Greenhouse Junior and Derrick Stafford with second-degree murder for the events that occurred on November third. Stafford and Greenhouse were working that night as city marshals in Marksville when they fired over a dozen rounds at a car driven by Chris Few. Few was severely injured and his autistic son Jeremy Mardis was killed.

Tension was felt during a public hearing in New Orleans over Confederate monuments. The City Council is expected to vote next week one whether the
the structures are a nuisance which would pave the way for them to come down. This anti-monument woman says the issue has been discussed for a long time and it’s not going to go away…:

Pro-monument speakers say removing the statues would be a dishonor to US Veterans and the city’s culture.

The debate got heated during a public hearing in New Orleans over whether or not to remove four Confederate monuments. The City Council is expected to vote next week on a declaration that states the structures are a nuisance which would pave the way for them to come down. But this woman believes New Orleans should not be wasting its time on a nuisance law…

A 14-year-old Bogalusa High School student has been arrested after authorities say he brought a BB gun to a bus stop. Bogalusa Police say a parent contacted them after seeing the student playing with the gun. The school was placed on lockdown until police found the boy. The gun was found hidden at the bus stop. The unidentified teen is charged with interfering with operations of a school, obstruction of an educational facility, and disturbing the peace.
