Louisiana Department of Public Safety and Corrections announces Darrel Vannoy will transition into the top position at Angola and work with outgoing Warden Burl Cain. The Advocate questioned whether Cain was making real estate deals with favored inmates and their families which would violate department policy. Jackson Representative Kenny Havard says Cain leaves behind a great legacy in many ways, but it’s possible he’s made some bad decisions recently…

A grand jury in Avoyelles Parish has indicted two officers on murder charges in connection with a Marksville shooting that left 6-year-old Jeremy Mardis dead and his father, Chris Few, injured. Norris Greenhouse, Jr. and Derrick Stafford are both formally charged with second degree murder and attempted second degree murder. The two officers were arrested November 6th on those same charges.

Emotions were running high during a public hearing in New Orleans over whether or not to remove four Confederate monuments. One pro-monument speaker said the statues are part of the city’s culture…

The City Council is expected to vote next week on a declaration that would pave the way for the monuments to come down.
