New Orleans police are investigating a deadly afternoon traffic accident. The call about the overturned vehicle on Interstate 610 and St. Bernard Avenue came in just before 4:30 yesterday. We’re told the injured driver was taken to the hospital where she was pronounced dead. No other injuries were reported.

Walker High School’s head baseball coach has been arrested for allegedly submitting false invoices of almost $30,000 to the school for reimbursement of equipment he never bought. When the school discovered the discrepancy, they ultimately learned that the equipment had never even been ordered. Livingston Parish Sheriff Jason Ard. says they his office is still investigating the incident.

The Saints have declined to pick up the fifth-year option on defensive end Peyton Turner. That means Turner will be a free agent after this season. The former first-round pick has not been able to stay healthy. In three NFL seasons, Turner has only appeared in 15 games and has 29 tackles, three sacks, and eight quarterback hits.

One of the top defensive tackles in the transfer portal has committed to Oklahoma after visiting LSU and several other schools. Damonic Williams started 27 consecutive games for the TCU Horned Frogs. During that time, he recorded 60 tackles, nine and a half tackles for a loss, and four and a half sacks.

LSU men’s basketball has announced the signing of guard Vyctorius Miller of Los Angeles, California. The four-star prospect played this past season at Arizona Compass Prep. Coach Matt McMahon says they love Miller’s three-point shooting ability and his versatility to score in a variety of ways. He’s listed as the 42nd-best player in the ESPN high school rankings.

Police in Shreveport have arrested a middle school student in connection with an alleged threat made against a Shreveport high school. Detectives arrested the 11 year old Youree Drive Middle School student on a charge of terrorizing. The unspecified threat was made against Captain Shreve High School.

Jones says the incident was originally believed to have been a road rage incident. It’s now known that the two knew of each other.

At the time of the shooting, witnesses reported two people outside their vehicles arguing on the one ramp to I-20 and when the victim tried to run away, the suspect allegedly shot him. Jones says the investigation is still ongoing…

The head baseball coach at Walker High School, Nicholas Scelfo has been arrested for allegedly submitting false invoices of almost $30,000 to the school for reimbursement of equipment he never purchased. Livingston Parish Sheriff Jason Ard says they were contacted after school officials conducted an equipment inventory.

When the school discovered no equipment they reviewed the reimbursement invoices, and contacted vendors associated with the orders. They found the orders did not exist. Ard says they are still investigating the incident.

Pinsonat says Representative Julie Emerson’s Education Savings Account bill passed 72 to 32 in the House on April 8, but the measure that would greatly expand the state’s voucher program  has stalled in the Senate…

Pinsonat says a big concern with the E-S-A bill is the cost. The proposal makes taxpayer dollars available to all families to pay for education expenses, including private school tuition.

Pinsonat says Senate President Cameron Henry is not fully on board with Landry on the E-S-A bill or the constitutional convention

The LSU baseball team will host the Texas A&M Aggies this weekend. A&M currently sits on top of D1 Baseball’s rankings and the Aggies are top 3 in the SEC in almost every major hitting and pitching category so far this season. The Aggies will not be the first number one team that the Tigers have faced, but LSU Head Coach Jay Johnson says that they may be the most complete team they’ve seen since there are seemingly no holes in A&M’s play.

The Aggies are not only a very balanced team, but they have been dominating their competition this season. That dominant play has shown up in many ways, but none more empathic than last weekend when A&M run-ruled the nineteenth ranked Georgia Bulldogs 19 to 9. Coach Johnson says that taking on Texas A&M will be an exciting opportunity for the Tigers.

LSU has won seven of its past nine games after taking two of three against Missouri and Auburn as well as defeating UNO, Nicholls, and Grambling in midweek games. The Tigers need this winning streak to continue if they want to make the NCAA tournament this season and Johnson says that his team is in the right mindset to accomplish this goal.

LSU will take on Texas A&M with the first pitch today at 7 pm and the game will be broadcast on ESPN2 and the SEC Network.

New ULM Warhawks football coach Byrant Vincent says that he has seen a lot of offseason progress show up in his team’s spring training. Vincent says that he has a plan in place to help get the Warhawks back on track in the win column, but like with any new system, he says that there will be some challenges that come with everything being new.

The Warhawks finished last season with a 2 and 10 record overall and an 0 and 8 record in SunBelt play. Vincent says that building a winning culture at ULM will take time and that the first eight weeks are very important to a program’s success. That’s why Vincent says he’s developed a two part plan to really build a strong foundation for ULM.

And the House is scheduled to vote Tuesday on House Bill 800 to hold a Constitutional Convention that would begin on May 20th. The vote was moved from Wednesday, and bill author New Iberia Representative Beau Beaullieu added amendments that the homestead exemption would remain intact and private donations would not be used to help defer costs for the convention.

18th ranked UL-Lafayette baseball will take on the second best team in the SunBelt when the Ragin Cajuns take on Troy in a big SunBelt road series. Sloppy play on the road caused the Cajuns to lose a major road series this season when they traveled to Coastal Carolina and Ragin Cajuns Head Coach Matt Deggs says that his team can’t give up any “freebies” to Troy if they want to take this key series.

The Cajuns and Trojans will face off Friday with first pitch at 6pm and the game will be broadcast on ESPN+.

LSU pitcher Nate Ackenhausen was reported as questionable for this weekend’s series against Texas A&M after LSU Head Coach Jay Johnson announced that Ackenhausen suffered a hamstring injury.

The Louisiana Tech Bulldogs are on a 6 game winning streak dating back to their series clinching win over Dallas Baptist University on April 21st. Bulldogs Head Coach Lane Burroughs says that he is proud of how his team has performed this season and that LA Tech has put themselves in a really good position to make a run in the postseason.

The Bulldogs and Aggies face off on Friday with first pitch at 7 pm and the game will be broadcast on ESPN+.

And the New Orleans Saints have signed former Lions cornerback Will Harris to a one-year deal.

During a transport from the Catahoula Correctional Center, an inmate was fatally shot. Brooke Thorington has more.

It took a jury just an hour to return a guilty verdict against Former Lafourche Parish Art Teacher, 64-year-old Ralph Cheramie. He faces a combined total of over one hundred years in prison for sexually abusing a student while he was a teacher at a middle school in 2009. The victim reported the crime to school officials at the time but little action was taken. Years later she reported directly to law enforcement. The testimony of another of Cheramie’s victim’s was reportedly crucial in showing his pattern and method of grooming young students.

A Catahoula Correctional Center Inmate was fatally shot after allegedly faking an illness during transport and attacking two correctional officers. Lt. Jared Sandifer with the Louisiana State Police says it happened just outside of St. Francisville Wednesday morning.

The inmate has been identified as 46-year-old Raymond Huddleston of Baton Rouge. He was being transported to a court hearing.

Police have arrested 34-year-old Foreign National Amanvir (uh man ver) Singh in the shooting death of 36-year-old long-haul truck driver, Gurpreet Singh Judge. The shooting occurred alongside Interstate 20 in Caddo Parish last month and Wednesday night, Singh was arrested in Flowood, Miss where he lives. He faces a second-degree murder charge in what was initially believed to be a road rage incident. Caddo sheriff’s investigators said Singh and Judge knew each other and the shooting was not random road rage. Extradition efforts are pending.

Sandifer says Huddleston was able to disarm one of the correctional officers, and that officer was able to retrieve the firearm. He says Huddleston also tried to drive off in the van.

Despite officers rendering aid after Huddleston was shot, he died from his injuries.  Sandifer says state police are investigating and it appears before Huddleston faked a seizure, he was able to remove his restraints.
